It seems like in this process, we're ALWAYS waiting for SOMETHING. Now we're waiting on our certified copies of the marriage certificate. I need it for all kinds of reasons....changing my name with SSA, adding mister to my health/dental plans, getting him his state ID card, filing AOS & the list goes on. Every day I check my bank account on-line to see if they've cashed the check yet for the copies & nothing yet. They did state it could take 4-6 weeks & this is wedding season so I guess I have to be patient. <_<

Really? Wow, that seems like a long time.

no finesse he will not go back now.., he is still in status on his visitor visa for another 4 mnths and can just adjust from here if he stays. we've weighed our options, and this is the best way to go.. MORE EXPENSIVE, but the best for us.. he is worried about not going back to JA so he can earn more money to help us w/ filing and of course see the kids, but AOS processing could take as lil as 5 mnths so w/ Gods help, we will wait it out..

ok i have to go back too many pages

i barely made it into the thread and saw quanna is now a mrs

i'm just gonna have to wait till ells come to get the other good news

IF she give a report.. i was waiting on one yesterday remember.. she was too tired!!!

learn from my mistakes ladies!

ugh

what a pain

we were given the run around by the embassy and DHL- go figga

DHL was saying a variety of things:

*the passport/visa never left the embasssy,

*also saying it was 'misplaced' in main DHL distrubition center in kingston 5,

*then saying it was 'on hold' at the embassy

*also saying it was in transit to montego bay

*DHL employee: "hmmmmmm, that's weird, i've never seen a document put on hold except when waiting to clear customs"

the Embassy was saying:

*a visa has not been issued- you will be contacted with further info

*visa has been issued, but placed on hold- you will be contacted with further info

damion finally got a call on saturday afternoon around 3 o'clock (3 days ago) saying:

'you need to come to kingston this monday before 10 am to get your fingerprints retaken' gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

so he went to kingston yesterday from mobay and had his fingerprints retaken for 85$(USD), and now their 'mixup' is fixed i suppose

i was stupid in thinking that a month from the interview would be enough time to get the visa in his hands..... so now he is coming at a later date.

i learned my lesson~ never make plane reservation until visa is in hand

i knew this, so i cant be so upset with anybody but myself

oh well, it will only be 150$ to change the ticket

(i mean what 150$ more when we have invested this much already? LOL  )

Y'ALL HAVE A WONDERFUL, PRODUCTIVE, AND EASY DAY!

Yeah, it is wisest to always wait till visa in hand. But, the excitement of it all overtakes almost everyone. Hang in there.

Wow! $150 now to change tickets?

 You didn't have it a MONTH later?? I was counting on having it 4 days after the interview. But I won't book the ticket until we get the visa from DHL. This makes me wonder if I should "waste" a day & pick it up from DHL in Kingston instead of waiting for it to get to Montego Bay. It seems that the transit from Kingston to Montego Bay is just one more opportunity for something to go wrong. I didn't want to make that drive all the way from Negril to Kingston to pick it up, though, but I won't have a month to wait! We need to take the premarital counseling class at church that starts in October.

You can't count on anything, whether you pick it up or have it delivered, until it is actually in hand - Getting it in 4 days is lucky- I have seen people wait 3-4 months -

Yep, I agree. Always tell people.....don't make plane tickets until visa in hand. Would advise that on any kind of set plans as well.

MsTee, I'm jealous about the 5 weeks of vacation. I'm STRUGGLING with only 3.

Quana!!!!! WHAT!!!!! That's awesome news! Congratulations.

Dillon, I think everyone missed my post earlier. Happy Birthday!

RoxcieJoe, I know you must be SUPER DUPER excited about your husband coming tomorrow. Best wishes! Be sure to give us a POE review.

MrsBuggy, my church has a married couples ministry. They do things like have a date night, where you can drop your kids off at church on a Friday night so you can go out. They also had a massage class a few weeks ago. And a book club for the married women (Intimiate Issues: 21 Questions Christian Women Ask About Sex). And ballroom dancing classes. I used to think they only had a lot of activities for singles, but since I started paying attention, I see quite a few things for married couples too.

Cuban09, I have the steps. Let me go get it & send to you...

Cuban09:

3) Once you know the date NVC sent off the file, track it at DHL's website: http://track.dhl-usa.com/TrackByRef.asp?nav=TrackByRef For the reference code, enter EXP 10 JUL 2009A (adjust using dates just before the date NVC told you), with a shipping range of that day to a few days later (July 13 - July 14 worked for the example above). Look for shipments to your beneficiary's embassy.

4) To find out if the embassy processed the packet, call the Dept of State before 5pm: 202-663-1225 press 1 then 0

5) You can also call the DoS to find out your interview date once you believe the embassy has scheduled it.

-------

Regarding the visa, I'm not buying the ticket until he has the visa in hand. I checked with Continental and they said you can pay with your credit card up to 4 hrs before the flight (to give it time to process). Otherwise, you can still fly if there's room, but you'd need to pay with cash.

Our backup plan is that he won't come back with me. I just need him to be here before the pre-marital counseling class starts near the end of October.

Oh yeah. I meant to comment on this yesterday...

How long does it typically take to get a marriage certificate in the mail after you're married? I googled it last night for Texas, but couldn't find an answer.

Sorry you're dealing with these hassles Just! But I beg to differ in that I don't think you were stupid, just optimistic. I did the same thing & just happened to be one of the lucky ones whose visa came through in record time. I had mister's ticket booked well in advance so he could have seats next to me on both flights home. It's just a risk you take in the process....for me, it was worth the potential $150 change fee to make sure he could sit next to me if he was able to fly home with me, & it worked!

Good Morning ladies!!!!!!!!

Our interview was on August 4th (APPROVED) and due to the holiday on the 6th the visa stayed on hold until Wednesday the 12th and then was available for pick up in Montego Bay!!!!!!

The visa process is a mess, like the paper says please dont make any airplane plans because you will be disappointed.

Hope everything goes well with everyone. I thank GOD for VJ it was a great guide and still is.

Hubby can to the US for the first time Saturday. las Vegas in 100 degree plus weather

LAWWWWDDDD

Congrats JQ! Glad your hubby is finally home with you!

That's awesome! :star:

Clarification: It's awesome that he's here now. It's not awesome that it took 8 days for the Visa to be ready.

Actually that still is a very reasonable time for the visa to arrive. They tell you to wait a week before you check DHL so really, with the holiday, it was exactly a week to the day. A person just has to plan enough time to wait it out if you want your SO to make it home with you. If you don't have the time, then you're taking a risk by expecting them to be able to leave on a very short time frame. Even though I stayed an extra 2 1/2 weeks from the interview, it was still a risk but worth it to me nonetheless.
