Greencard, how long?

I have a short question for you guys. Me and my fiancee have been planning to have our honeymoon in Sweden, but how long does it usually take before you recieve the greencard after you're married? It's a bit hard buying tickets if you don't know when you can travel ;)

I wouldn't make any definite plans for travel. It may take anywhere from a few months to years to get the green card. You can apply for AP travel documents, but they may take some time as well. If you want to travel soon, the best thing to do is apply for the AP (I-131) along with your AOS application, then plan your trip after the documents are received.

I agree.

You can only enter the U.S. once using your K-1 visa--if you leave before you have AOS you won't be able to get back in. You should probably plan your trip to Sweden after all the paperwork is completed.

Please fill in your timeline--you will get more accurate information if you have a timeline.

We'll have to wait, then. Thanks a lot :)

I shall do just that

Is there an expiration date on the Advanced Parole, by the way?

AP is good for a year from the date of issue, the same as your EAD. If you're still waiting for your greencard after that you can reapply, only of course you have to pay the fees again!

Karen - Melbourne, Australia/John - Florida, USA

- Proposal (20 August 2000) to marriage (19 December 2004) - 4 years, 3 months, 25 days (1,578 days)

STAGE 1 - Applying for K1 (15 September 2003) to K1 Approval (13 July 2004) - 9 months, 29 days (303 days)

STAGE 2A - Arriving in US (4 Nov 2004) to AOS Application (16 April 2005) - 5 months, 13 days (164 days)

STAGE 2B - Applying for AOS to GC Approval - 9 months, 4 days (279 days)

STAGE 3 - Lifting Conditions. Filing (19 Dec 2007) to Approval (December 11 2008)

STAGE 4 - CITIZENSHIP (filing under 5-year rule - residency start date on green card Jan 11th, 2006)

*N400 filed December 15, 2011

*Interview March 12, 2012

*Oath Ceremony March 23, 2012.

ALL DONE!!!!!!!!

A question off topic.

How can you see how many times uscis has touched my petition?

Thanks!

Gogal

You can't. When you log in to USCIS it will tell you when your case was last updated--there is no record of how many times it was updated.

You don't really need to worry about it though--the touches are not very important. Our case was touched ONLY the day before it was approved. Others seem to get lots of touches before their case is approved. It is the approval(NOA2) that you want.

Good luck!
