Aya...I have a somewhat crazy question for you. There are tampons in Egypt, correct? Do many women use them? I'll tell you why in a few minutes.

Hmmmm....interesting question Tasha. I remember growing up back in Poland how we rarely could even get regular pads...never heard of tampons till I got to US back in '91...However once I tried them, I was hooked... Not that anybody cares and it's definitely TMI but I felt like sharing LOL I better go now before I start talking more nonsense LOL

Well, my husband and I had this conversation today. He had never seen one until he saw a box of them in the bathroom. He went on to say how he didn't feel it was "normal" to wear something like that. That if I brought that to Egypt all of the women would say it looked like something else and they wouldn't use it. I went on to fight for why I think it works and I still don't think he listened to me. I just wanted to prove that they had them there.

We got HBO and Cinemax for three free months and while I was flickin the channels I stopped for a few minutes at the movie Towel Head (i think that was the name) and the scene was a father finding a tampon in the toilet and yelling at his daughter for using it. I guess they don't condone it's use over there. I've never used them. When I hit puberty the big scare was toxic shock syndrome and that was enough to shy me away for life! I'm sure they're safer now but still I just can't do it.

Just to continue on with the TMI (hi Charles!! :star: ) I used to belong to a forum where all the women raved about this cup that they'd use during that special time of the month. I forget the name of it but basically you reuse it each month and apparently it's pretty efficient. That's another thing I never see myself doing. I won't get into why. :P

You don't usually see them in pharmacies or stores Tasha. I never used one. I actually never heard of any until last April or May.. Yes, that's how uncommon they are here. :P I remember John was organizing things in my purse and there was a pink thing where my pad is he never knew what that was. A few months later he asked me what was the pink thing in your purse, I told him that was a pad.. He was like umm aren't they called tampons.. He didn't know what pads are and I didn't know what tampons are :innocent::innocent: :innocent: And that's only when I knew what they are and noticed if they are in a pharmacy or not. But seriously I don't know how they are used.

The Instead Cup is what I was talking about. Has anyone ever used one? Looks like you just shove it in there like you would a diaphram but I can't even try to imagine how disgusting it must be when you pull the thing out!

I've considered the cup but couldn't get past the idea of cleaning up. I dunno. Maybe in the shower?

Yeah, there's tampons in Egypt. Not in every store or pharmacy, but they're here.

The good news is summer's almost over ... there are early oranges out at the souk, which is a good sign. Next there will be dates, then winter.

I'm late to this thread, I guess, had family over all day... eeeh. Anyway. I just sent Abigail to my SIL's across the street with a bunch of nieces and nephews and I am enjoying the lack of whinyness for the time being :)

My husband and I want to go to Amsterdam so bad!

My last two visits, I flew NWA/KLM and transited through Amsterdam... Everything was great on the way here, but on the way back through AMS on the way home, security gave me an awful time. I was pretty much strip-searched, had my bags hand-searched and taken off the plane, nearly missed my connecting flight, etc. One time they actually wouldn't give my hijab back to me, so i had to walk through the lobby area to retrieve it from a security officer before I could put it back on. This time I decided to avoid that, and flew AirFrance instead. This flight was very uncomfortable, but I'm not sure how much of that was just traveling with a small child and how much of it was the airline and/or airports. Amsterdam did look beautiful from above, and I would've loved to have been able to spend a day or two there. Same for France.

God I hated EgyptAir...never ever again! :P

Ugh, EgyptAir. It's like the Greyhound bus of the sky. With a hint of hummus.

Re: Menstrual cups... I tried using the Instead cups for a few cycles, they always made me nervous. I knew how they should theoretically work, but I was always super cautious wearing them. Plus, when I would remove them... spillage. I was thinking of giving the Divacup or the Mooncup a try, though, they seem to be a better design than Instead cups.

So much for enjoying my lunch.
