Greetings,

We're waiting on the I-129F approval right now, NOA1 was 13 days ago. I've been unemployed since January. I lost my house and moved to where there is more work and more family nearby, just got here a few weeks ago. From June 2004 to January 2009 my income was about $65k/yr. I don't think I've ever been under the poverty income level since I graduated high school. Even my unemployment right now is 80% higher than the 2-person poverty level.

I am sure I can get work soon, but I wonder what is important for getting through the approval processes, specifically regarding the Manila interview.

-Permanent job? Would we get denied if during the interview I were working on a contract or temporary job?

-Higher income, or just above the minimum?

-Do they care if the job has medical benefits?

Should I take any permanent job I can get, as long as it's above poverty+25%?

If I got a contract job with a few months duration, but earning 300% of poverty level, would that be more or less favorable for passing the interview than having a permanent job earning 130% of poverty?

Basically, I wonder if I should or should not consider spending time trying to get certain jobs that are in certain income ranges or employment types (contract vs permanent, etc) or if I should just go after everything.

Thanks!

hi kevin,

based on my experience, when i had my interview last April, my then fiance was laid off from work since October of last year so basically i was really worried about it. at that time he was also receiving unemployment pay. looking at his ITR for 2006, 2007 and 2008, hes getting way above the poverty level.

since you just got your NOA1i suggest to look for a job, im sure there is still time :)

I was interviewed March 2006, and my husband(fiance at that time) lost his job January 2006. I think as long as the 3 previous ITR's were above the poverty guideline, then your fiancee will be okay. What happened to me, my husband visited and came with me during the interview. The consul asked him what he does for living and he said he's in between jobs at that moment but it doesn't mean to say he would never look for a job once he returns to the US. :-D Everything went well.

I'm sure you'll have a job before interview. Goodluck!

*my husband did not get a job until july 2006.

Hi, thanks for all the replies.

This is very encouraging to hear. I thought I had read other posts where people were denied based on being unemployed at the time of the interview. I suppose the sponsors may have had a history of not much income, or something similar. Since I have 3+ years of 3.5x the poverty level, I bet we'll be fine especially if I can be there during the interview.

Thanks everyone :)
