I got tired of emailing the Lagos consulate with no response, so I called the DOS and they told me Lagos has no record of having received my petition (what!!??). It was sent out by NIV on 7/8/2009! I asked if it normally takes a month for the petition to get to that consulate and the lady did not know. She told me to call the NIV and ask them.

I called the NIV and was told that they no longer had my petition and therefore could not help me. I asked if they could tell me if/when Lagos received the petition and they said they do not have that information. I was then told to contact the Lagos consulate. I explained that I have already sent several emails and made several phone calls with no luck and she said to just keep trying 'They will eventually answer you'.

I am beyond upset at this point. The approval for our petition expires in October and no one seems to know where my petition is. I will keep trying to reach Lagos, but is it too early to contact my congressman or state senator? Maybe they will have better luck locating my petition. Any suggestions?

It gets worse, I just got this email from them:

Dear Madam,

Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, we have no records of this case in our system. Due to the large volume of applications, it may take some time before approved petitions are received and entered into the system. Applicants are contacted in the order the petitions are received.

We hope this is helpful.

Sincerely,

Correspondence Unit

United States Consulate General

Lagos, Nigeria

I'm not sure if I should be panicking or not. I sent them a response pretty much asking them to check their information again and set an interview date ASAP because the approval for our petition expires on October 17. I don't know what else to do......

I think you should go ahead and contact your Senator, they should at least have your file electronically. But really I don't understand why it takes so long to get the cases......it took almost a month for mine as well.
