I got tired of emailing the Lagos consulate with no response, so I called the DOS and they told me Lagos has no record of having received my petition (what!!??). It was sent out by NIV on 7/8/2009! I asked if it normally takes a month for the petition to get to that consulate and the lady did not know. She told me to call the NIV and ask them.

I called the NIV and was told that they no longer had my petition and therefore could not help me. I asked if they could tell me if/when Lagos received the petition and they said they do not have that information. I was then told to contact the Lagos consulate. I explained that I have already sent several emails and made several phone calls with no luck and she said to just keep trying 'They will eventually answer you'.

I am beyond upset at this point. The approval for our petition expires in October and no one seems to know where my petition is. I will keep trying to reach Lagos, but is it too early to contact my congressman or state senator? Maybe they will have better luck locating my petition. Any suggestions?

Per DHL it showed that the embassy received my petition June 29th. Up until this past friday July 31st DOS kept telling me that the embassy has not received my petition as well. However they would say they have received it electronically just not the physical petition yet. Call them ask if they have received it electronically yet. Until they actually work the petition and assign a interview date I think it will show as not being received, but as long as they have it electronically your okay.

Thanks for that suggestion. I just called them again and they said the electronic version goes out on the same day as the physical copy. The lady at the DOS said it shows that the information was sent out both electronically and physically, but that Lagos has not yet aknowledged that they have received it. Her advice was to keep calling Lagos :(

How did you get the DHL information. Is there a tracking number somewhere?

I'm sure your petition was sent, It took a a month before they admitted they had my physical package. If I was you, I would wait just a little bit longer and the next time u call the DOS and they tell u per the computer Lagos has sent out your package 3, that means they now physically rec your package. But remember DOS< NVC< NIV , no one really has the info u need, they are just going by what the embassy tells them and believe me, the embassy are liars! They claim my fiance packet 3 was mailed out on July 21s, here is Aug 5th and still nothing. But if u think your senator can help, definitely call them.

Contacting your senator is very much in line since you are not getting any joy with Lagos embassy. October isn't far off and it's good to put them on their toes now. All the best.

Thank you. October is not far off at all. I really wish they would get their act together.

Maybe I'll wait a little longer until I actually speak to someone on the phone (just keeps ringing and ringing), or until I get a response to my daily emails. It is just so frustrating! I actually downloaded the interview preparation packet from their website. You might want to do that instead of waiting for them to deliver it.

Hi! I just sent you a PM with the instructions on how to find this info. Now it doesnt give whose name is on the packages but you can be pretty sure it's yours that went out to that embassy on that day. Also, I didnt mention in the PM but it will pull up a list of all the countries NVC sent packages out to that day so just look for Lagos.

Oh no, I'm not waiting for the forms, we have them, I'm waiting on the interview letter. I already know that they don't actually mail out the actually package, you are actually going to get the interview letter and package by email. That's why I said the embassy are liars because they tell DOS they mailed them when they don't. Also, you will probably never get thru to the embassy by calling, several of us have tried that toooooooo many times. And the emails? It takes about 2 weeks to get a response. And when u get a response it's a generic response that they send everybody. However, once ur interview date is set, they will actually personalize their email response to you. I emailed them a week ago or so about my interview date and I'm still waiting on a response. It's all just really crazy!

Guess what, I tried it again with the location this time (duh?) and it worked! They told me it was sent on the 8th and on the DHL website, the only packet sent to Nigeria was on the 9th so it must be mine right? It arrived in Lagos on July 13. I hope its mine. I'll keep on emailing the consulate for the interview date and keep my fingers crossed. Thank you so much!

I agree, I won't waste anymore time calling. After checking the DHL website, it looks like they received my packet on the 13th. Maybe they just put it in a pile and will get to it whenever. They don't seem to understand or care how this is affecting us. Oh well....let's hang in there and keep pressuring them as best as we can until we get a response/interview date.

It gets worse, I just got this email from them:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Madam,

Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, we have no records of this case in our system. Due to the large volume of applications, it may take some time before approved petitions are received and entered into the system. Applicants are contacted in the order the petitions are received.

We hope this is helpful.

Sincerely,

Correspondence Unit

United States Consulate General

Lagos, Nigeria

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm not sure if I should be panicking or not. I sent them a response pretty much asking them to check their information again and set an interview date ASAP because the approval for our petition expires on October 17. I don't know what else to do......
