Has it ever been an issue when K-1ers simply plan a civil wedding? In lieu of the economy and because we're somewhat not the drink all you can partying kind, my fiance and I wanted to have an intimate and quick ceremony, no church and no big reception, dance the night away type of thingie. That's the reason I'm kicking back and relaxing and not worrying about any wedding details. I mean how much can you really plan within 90 days? Now out of paranoia, I wonder if COs will find that questionable or what. Has anyone been questioned for this?

No that's what I did, no worries. How could they oblige you to spend a lot if you didn't have any money? Marriage is a marriage. Period. Whether it's a $300.000,00 or $1,00 is none of their business :)

That is exactly what we plan to do too within the 90 days, and then a church wedding sometime later (no plans yet).

Not questionable at all - I'd venture that a good portion of K-1 filers do a civil ceremony - for AOS purposes all they're really concerned about is that a marriage took place (not a ceremony).

I'm planning a quick vow-saying ceremony, either by justice of the peace or by one of my church pastors.

Then I'll have a get together with my family to celebrate a few days after Thanksgiving.

The "big" ceremony will be at an all-inclusive in Jamaica next Thanksgiving (2010). I like the idea of an all-inclusive because they plan it and don't charge many fees if you stay there for a certain # of days.

That is what we are going to do, as well. Small ceremony initially, then a more traditional wedding ceremony at a later date. Good question, and no, it won't be an issue for the interview. They don't care how you get married, just that you do get married.

We're doing a JP thing, probably at the courthouse. Much easier, I think, and still meaningful. :)

Oh good to know. Thanks all for sharing your plans (ok don't forget to invite me, I'll PM you my address...lol).

Since we're talking about weddings here, perhaps you should check out this youtube video. It's insane. I've always imagined my wedding march to be different but this one tops it!

Yup our plans also. This process it already costing a lot of money, so we're just gonna do the same and remarry in 2 years when we saved enough money for it ^^

We just got married in a small ceremony in the historic gardens of an historical site - including the judge who married us there were 7 of us present. It is the getting married that is important, not the ceremony. USCIS actually understands and has no problems with that.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

The subtitle of your thread's subject line says "within 90 months," which would put everyone a bit out of status, si man. :)

C. & I did our civil quickie on Hallowe'en with a Justice of the Peace, then took the signed marriage document DIRECTLY to the county courthouse, where we ordered seven (7) marriage certificates that were created on the spot. Good thing, too -- just one remains after the others were used officially or were mooched as souvenirs (moms and other such sentimentalists, si man).

After the courthouse, we went to dinner at a fancy restaurant that was owned by an Ecuadorian, si man, where C. quaffed a couple of rather intense margaritas. When we got home and I attempted to carry her across the threshold, I dropped her on the garage floor. Fortunately, the, uh, level of pickling was such that she apparently didn't care (or remember), no man.

Our big party was a few weeks later... on Pearl Harbor Day. Things went swimmingly except that BOTH of my tux shoes lost their soles, which made for some interesting shuffling (in both senses).

I thought that lost soles belonged with Hallowe'en and not Pearl Harbor Day, si man.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

We got married on the front lawn by our neighbor, a JP. Not a single question asked at the AOS interview. In fact our marriage certificate looks EXACTLY the same as someone who had a wedding like Princess Diana. It makes absolutely no difference at all as long as it is a legal marriage.

Same for us. Only one day wait on the license and then in the county judges chambers the next day. No witnesses required.
