Damaged conditional resident card!

Hi there,

One of our dogs chewed up my conditional resident card, and I was wondering how we go about getting a new one?

Thanks,

Mark & Sissy

I-90 with $380 fee. I think option - my card was mutilated, destroyed...

How far away from filing for removal of conditions? If it is still at least in one part (and hopefully you have a photocopy of it) I'd wait til I-751 time and save the money. Hopefully you have other forms of ID to use - DL, state ID...

Agreed- if you are close to Removal of Conditions, you have a photocopy and the card is still partly decent, wait.

USCIS sure knows how to charge, and you may be long dead before you get that replacement. Wife still has her conditional card, they let her keep it, but snatched her ten year card immediately when she only had it for seven weeks. Just because she received her USC.

I scanned everything we received from the USCIS, just in case, if you take preventative measures, nothing happens, Murphy's law.

Moved from "off topic" to "General immigration issues"

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

A new dog? Try the ASPCA.

thanks milimelo, Len and NickD,

we applied for ROC 3 months ago, so I guess we could hold off on applying for a replacement card till that is approved and I receive my 10 yr GC.

Wait, that's EXPIRED GC that was chewed up? It's expired, can't use it anymore - you'll get a new one soon anyways.

thanks milimelo, i didn't even think of that...duh!

my green card expires in three days, so i suppose we can throw it out after that while we await my roc approval (hopefully!) and subsequent 10 yr GC!

I would keep the card in whatever condition it may be. As stated before, if needed put in a baggy. May be months before you have an actual GC in hand. In the meantime may want to make an InfoPass appt. and get your passport stamped.

Good advice from Anh map. Yes, take the chewed green card with you to an infopass appointment, as the card and the extension letter are supposed to be used together as proof of your status. I think you should be able to convince USCIS to put the I-551 stamp in your passport under the circumstances.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

The dog ate my homework but my teacher didn't believe me.

I'd get rid of that dog. Who knows what will happen next.
