Hi all,

I have a specific questions concerning reentry to the US as follows:

My wife lef to visit her parents in Ukraine with our son in July. I fly over ine a week, stay with them, and we all return the next week.

Here's the issue:

She left using her old Ukraine passport with a temporaty visa extension sticker/stamp on it.

Her permanent residency card arrived while she is away. I called and told her.

She decided to renew her Ukraine passport while there and succeeded in the renewal.

the temporary visa extension stamp/sticker is transferred to her new card.

However, the stamp showing her exit date from the USA remains on her old passport. She no longer posseses her old passsport.

I will bring her permamnent residence card to her in Ukraine.

Is her reentry into the USA a problem without the exit stamp on her new Ukraine passport?

It will not be a problem. I presume the stamp you refer to is the I-551, correct? It was given to her to serve as the "green card" until her green card arrived. When she re-enters she will show her Ukraine passport and green card. My wife just returned from Ukraine two weeks ago. Because she already had her green card when she left, she had no "exit stamp" from the USA in her passport. I think, at worst, she simply explains the timing of things. Her exit is recorded and shows in their computer and clearly the green card and passport issue dates will corroborate everything.

Have a good trip. Don't lose the green card!!! :)

I don't think that'd be a problem. I'm not sure if she had the I-94 in her old passport when leaving. If she did, then IO picked it up when she left USA. If not, still shouldn't be a problem, as Ukraine police will keep her old passport and in case IO'd like to contact them they'd be able to check that out. Also, she'll have her permanent residence card with her. I don't think it really matters if she's been out of the country for one-two months. I have friends who had their GCs and were traveling back and forth to USA. You could also call the USEM and ask them for details. Good luck!
