I am thinking about hiring a man called Roger Lin from visas China to help my fiance with all the paper work and everything that needs to be done. Can we do this without the help or is it a good ideal to pay this guy $600.00 from Nanning, Guangxi (is that close to Guanghzou)?

I wrote this once, maybe i am blocked. I am thinking about hiring visas china which say his office is in Nanning, Guangxi I wounder if that is close to Guanghzou. I am wondering if we can do this on our own, and what will we need to do, that we haven't already done. We have the police reports, on her son and her, we have the vacination records, she has my support letter and notrized, all my taxes for 3 years, many, many pictures etc. Everything is in english. Should I pay this firm $600.00 for his help. I am worried,my fiance doesn't speak good english and has a very hard time understanding things. I will be going to the interview, but the help is needed before the interview. What to do?

I used a lawyer. there is good and bad. For me he saved me the Vermont route. That cut out a big waste of time. I like to think that justified the cost. the cost was in the range you have. Can Roger do all the translations and printing? That is the main thing you need otherwise you send stuff back and forth.

My wife is from Nanning. it is not 'close'.

You can expect some problems as she does not speak, write or read English government forms. Was she married? Have children? These result in documentation issues. Is there any possibility your relationship is free of 'RED FLAGS'? Like recent divorce or she has other attempts in her passport 'for the benefit of citizenship' or....is/was 'a Party member' or police 'issues'...well it all does not translate easily..

IN FACT your real issue is translation and having her give you the data for bio forms and application forms. She also has to provide Original Birth Cert (no BS here, doesn't have it? tough, get it). Additionally you would like to use an Adobe capable computer there, with printer. All the government forms are Adobe. Truly, top notch forms.

She can not print (probably has no such thing). So you will fill out most or all forms. Do it now, before applying. You can see the gaps and what you need.

Expect to spend a day or two with her to complete forms. longer if you, my friend, are not prepared.

you will want the translator with you.

Get you legal advice here at VJ. YUP spend a week, or three reading. Or...pop over to a cheap lawyer and give him the info. You will still complete the forms, but he can put his name on them and you can like that. Maybe the USCIS, NVC or GUZ VO will like it also.

If you do the CR1 route....I have it all! personally I say...get married in China. it is sooooooo cool.

I've never heard anything but good about Roger and his services. Nanning is about as far from Guangzhou as Seattle is from San Francisco. He is not an attorney but then again, spouse and fiancee immigration are not legal matters. $600 sounds a bit high if the service is only in support of the foreign national though. It's you that files the petition.

Well, Nanning is close to Guangzhou comparatively in the huge country of China. It's the capital of the neighboring province.

We paid Roger 5000Y and he has been great in communicating with my bride and I. Many in China do not understand this procedure. Roger understands it so well and also is a very good man. If you explain exactly what you have done and what you want him to do, I'm sure his $$ quote for services will be reasonable. He said he would make sure everything is done correctly, give any advice you and your bride need, prep her for the interview, and he has always taken our calls and answered all our questions. Basically gives me piece of mind that our stuff is in order.

001 is also a great source of misinformation and general mayhem. I would not recommend sending your bride there. Mine took one look at it and said "no good women."

I concur that the last thing you want is for your fiancee or wife to hang out at 001. It's far worse than the USCIS misinformation line. A great source of misinformation that will have you in many arguments with your loved one. Unless they are smart enough to see it's full of garbage on their own, you'll be fighting the standard battle based on "Any Chinese person is right and you are wrong." This will hold true even if the question is about how things work in the USA. Ask around. That's the way it is.

If you don't have a reliable way to get translations done or to communicate details about forms, enlisting some professional help is a great idea. Roger does good work but he's not the only option and he's an airplane ride or 14 hours on the train from GUZ. (My wife is from Nanning, born in GUZ.) Phone and email are wonderful things, so the distance is of no real consequence.

As a bi-lingual person who has lived on both sides of the Pacific and visited candle, 001, this website, and a few other immigration website over the years, let me just say that 001 is a mixed bag - but characterizing it as mayhem or a garbage dump is a stretch - the high level of hysteria aside (somebody help me please, NOW, I'm worried to death!), it does offer a wealth of *accurate* information about what the process entails. The key is not to get side-tracked by minute details and worry unnecessarily.

From time to time on 001 I can tell some women have questionable motives and others have unrealistic expectations for the future, but hey who can say their American counterparts are all saints? These are all adults making their own choices.

I do agree that whenever necessary paying for professional help is the right way to go. Too often on these DIY websites, 001 in particular, people are discouraged from doing so.

Mike and I rarely agree but on these accounts we do. If you want to hire someone to help with the forms that's up to you. I used a lawyer but in hindsight it was a waste of money.

Also unless Secretary of State or the President is helping you personally you should remember:

No one. Not here or in China has any "Special" relationship with GUZ.

No one. Not here or in China can 'expedite' the processing time.

Anyone that says they can is a liar.

I think you misunderstand his point. He doesn't have a problem with the forms but in communicating the stuff with his fiancee and answering all her questions. I had the exact same problem. I wouldn't hire a lawyer for that purpose, it would cost a fortune. But a very well respected expert like Roger is different. He does not ever say stuff like you warned, he just makes sure the petitioner and benefactor get the stuff they need, the forms are fine, and that everything is done correctly. The benefit is that his service is reasonable, he is a nice guy, he knows what he is doing, he can read, write and speak Chinese and English, so if you need the type of thing he can provide then it is a great service. I asked a bunch of people before we went with him and never found anyone with a nonflattering comment. BTW, I don't get paid for the recommendation but I am happy to tell people my experience if it will help them.
