With your circular reasoning?

Woolas said: "As a point of principle ... if you don't break the law and you are a citizen, that's fine. But if someone is applying to be a citizen to our country we do think that you should not only obey the law but show you are committed to our country. This is what America does, it is what France does it's what other countries do and we think we should do the same."

How do immigrants to the U.S. show they are "committed" to their adopted nation? Is it through the citizenship test?

We have plenty of illegal immigrants in sanctuary cities and people who ignore deportation orders. The U.S. is hardly a model for any immigration reforms when there's been little resolution of our own immigration problems.

If you break the law as a Permanent Resident you can be and often are repatriated. (In the US)

According to "Woolas", "you should not only obey the law but show you are committed to our country. This is what America does"

I don't believe America does this.

Well, you have to get past 'minister speak' on these issues. It might well be that what is being proposed goes further than what other nations currently do, or it might be that he is masquerading as putting a firm foot down when in reality he's wearing slippers. It's hard to know at this point.

Are you defending Woolas? Are you a Woolas supporter? Did you vote for Woolas, the Oldham East and Saddleworth MP?

you should not only obey the law but show you are committed to our country. This is what America does

For the record, America asks you to "to support and defend the Constitution and the laws of the United States".

Nowhere does it say that you're not allowed to protest.

Indeed, the right to protest is right there in the Constitution.

Ah, you updated your post, excellent :P

I think there are a number of Americans who most certainly would like to see their immigrants demonstrate a love for the US, by speaking English for example.
