Anyone else joke with their wife/husband about immigration stuff?

My husband always says 'you'd better smarten up, or i'll send you back to that horrible place you came from'....we have an ongoing joke cause I love Canada and I never would have left if it wasn't for him...and because Canada and the US are so close and similar, he jokes as though it is on the other side of the planet.... he says things like 'you need to start appreciating what you have...air conditioning....a washer and dryer.....real coffee (that's a knock at Tim Horton's).... and when we are in Canada, no matter what he sees, especially when it's negative, he says 'you know, you just don't see this in the US'.... we laugh about it....HAHA! I think it's HILARIOUS! only because Canada and the US are so similar....

Trust me, when I was waiting to come...the jokes were not as funny :( lol.... Now it's a different story....

I tell my husband that I'm his 'hot mail order bride' :)

Trust me if I had it my way, we would be living in Canada!!!!!!! maybe one day :)

Well...we haven't really joked much yet about the immigration stuff, but........

Since I'm in Canada and Tim's in the U.S., and there's no Tim Horton's down there....he jokes that I'm his little "Timbit."

(Good idea starting this thread, by the way. Might help to cheer up some people around here.)

That's so cute!!! I marrying a Tim as well, and love to refer to him as Timbit! (which is quite funny as he's also shorter than me...)

Can't really recall us joking about immigration, ( course we joke about everything else, so we probably have) but we sure do like to tease each other about our accents and such. Well, I don't have one, but he's a Southerner. Now...If I came from the Maritimes....THEN I'd have an accent

Oh but you DO have an accent, Joyce. Just ask Tim.

Last time I went south, everyone down there wanted to hear me say "What's that all aboot, eh?" Or they were asking "Can you speak French?" "Um...ya...just a bit of highschool French"...but they get such a kick out of it.

Oh and I forgot this.......

Back in May when I was visiting Tim, I got the urge to plant some flowers around his yard. After all, it was spring, and I don't have a yard here at the apartment where I live. So Tim kept telling his friends that I was trying to make his place look like someone lived there... and that I was "putting down roots."

Yes we do joke about the immigration stuff, some of it is sarcastic negative statements just about the whole process in general...esp with illegal immigration and all. His co workers tease him about me being a Canadian spy.

You're a spy too :o:ph34r:

Well, he says I'm in it for an extra passport (I already have two...) - my answer is that the ones I have now are already better than his; and, if he's nice, he could get two from the deal. Also, he says I'm a Communist. Oh, and that he always had a thing for Southern girls... he just didn't know it would be Southern Canadian :P I don't say eh or aboot, but the French accent is still plenty of fun. I didn't want to go to the USA, it just happens to be more logic to move there now... and move back here later

Then you must IMMEDIATELY surrender your Canadian citizenship, eh, si man. (I personally believe that all of you are here purely for our medical care, eh, verily, wot, si man.) I used to tell my ex-girlfriend (from Moose Brisket Corners, Ontario) that "Canadia" was a third-world country, si man, and boy did she always get mad. It made her even madder when I compared Canadians unfavo(u)rably with Texas Aggies, si man! Ha! :)

LOL yep I hear you on that one. Whenever someone finds out (or should I say "oot")I'm from Canada, they want to know if I say "aboot" or if I speak french. Now...I can do a real mean french accent...does that count?

Actually, three Americans that I met didn't know I was from Canada!! They said I didn't have a Canadian accent at all. Well, that is...until I said garage....

Now...If I came from the Maritimes....THEN I'd have an accent

Most my jokes are about proving we're a real couple. "Most real couples wouldn't do ...... would they." The most outrageous ones can't be posted of course. ;) Sometimes I joke that we're going to have to start a family to prove we're a real couple.

I love the 'movie immigration' questions, those are hilarious. I will also have to let him know I'm getting him on 'a two year lease with option to buy'.. I think he will love that!!

Our VisaJourney started July 2009 when I mailed the 129-F

Fiance here February 2010, married 10 days later

GC received in the mail 10-Jun-2010
