LOL! I went to there website and looked this up-and yes-there are actually 2 Tim Horton's in Canandaigua NY.
TWO Tim Horton's, and no need to go to Canada... heaven, si man. I hope that the teeming population of the Canandaiguan Metroplex can sustain two Tim Horton's, si man. The larger question is: Why would you actually perform research purely to answer my stoopid question, huh man? Do you lack better things to do? :)

Well, when you asked, I just HAD to know. ;)

Ugh!!!!

Yup I'm hearing ya!!!

My father, who left my mother and three kids, including me at 13 months old, decided to put his two cents in and write me a letter, not call or come over, to tell me how i was abandoning the family!! #######!

My mum has been pretty supportive considering i'm leaving for the other side of the world, but some others haven't been so nice.

I hate it how people, even Aussies, assume Americans are arrogant and rude when from what I've seen they're super polite and sweet!!! :)

US is not the best place to live

but probably the best place for my american husband.

I am old enough and have worked enough in France so that

it is a big financial loss for me to leave France.

US is nice

but I will not drop ties with France

will try to make the best of both!

Replace 'France" with "Belgium", and your post is mine!

When my husband informed his family that he was going to marry an American and that we would move to the US, his grandmother said, "Oh, but the USA is broke! Why don't you move to Canada instead?" But his family really like Americans and due to the regime in Iran it is never a surprise to anyone when an educated Iranian wants to move abroad.

I'd love to travel around Iran but wouldn't want to live there for obvious reasons. So it just makes since for us to move to the US even though I've lived in Germany, Norway, the UAE and now Turkey. Personally, I like the lifestyle in Europe better than the US with regards to affordable higher education, access to health care and a more favorable work to free-time ratio. But I can't say I was received very well as an American in Europe despite my liberal leanings. So great lifestyle or not I realize that I'd just never feel at home in Europe and I don't think my husband would either. It just wouldn't make since for us to both have to struggle being foreigners in a new country.

My parents did NOT want me to move. They don't deal with change very well. They also didn't think it was a good idea for me to quit my job and get my bachelor's degree, but I went ahead and did it anyway! The last couple of weeks before we moved they were really making life hard for me. When I wasn't around they would tell my daughter "if you just say the word, you can live here and not have to leave your friends or your school. we will take your mom to court and you can stay here with us!" I actually had to bring her to counseling so that she could deal with the guilt and pressure they were putting on her (or at least let ME deal with it. At first she didn't want me to say anything to them about it because she was afraid they'd be mad at her). What a mess!

I really found out who my true friends were, though. Some were tremendously supportive and some... disappeared out of my life. The most disappointing was one of my best friends who I had known since I was 13. She was "too busy" to see me before I left (had some weekends up at her cottage with other friends but didn't invite me). She hasn't called or emailed or anything -- not even comment on my birthday or wedding on Facebook (even though I personally spent $1k on her bachelorette party February '08). It makes me sad, but also makes me realize that our friendship was just out of convenience (on her part) and not any real true care or concern for me.

Your post really did hit me right in the center, and I know what you're going through. I have said before how 90% of my friends and family will disown me when I give them a date for my actual departure, which is also why I don't bother discussing too much of the details here with anyone. Talking to deaf or negative ears does not benefit me or what I want to do. Just like you I have a son who my parents have been trying to manipulate before, so I'm feeling very protective regarding any sort of negative input on his behalf. There is nothing in specific my friends and family dislike about my fiancè, except the fact he is from the US. They don't like America, they don't like me being with an american and they were certainly not happy about me getting pregnant with someone from the US. However, I just keep telling me this is my life and my family, and I need to follow my heart no matter how hard other people make it. I'm wishing you all the best and lots of happiness with your fiancè/husband! My thoughts are with you and everyone else in this situation. Just stay strong, true love is never wrong (L)

My mum didn't want me to go, but she was very supportive once she realised I was going to make it happen (this happened after I handed my notice in on my job and moved back in with her 6 weeks before I left!)

We had a choice, we could have lived in england but the decision making process went something like this...

We can be slightly poor and cold and live in England

OR

We can be slightly poor and warm and live in Florida.

The current economy here in Florida is working in our favour now. We can afford a nice house (in england even with housing prices falling slightly, we could only afford a 2 bed terrace) and once I start working, will probably have the deposit saved in just over a year.

I think with skype and all the other methods of communication, it is easy to maintain good relationships....that said, I still only call her once every 3 days...if talk of back home occurs anymore than that...I get homesick.

my wife's mother won't tell anyone in their hometown that she married an American. she is afraid she'll get kidnapped for ransom, or at least have a slew of people at the gate asking for her daughter to arrange visas for the neighbor's children.

How awful, si man! Biggest reaction here is all of C.'s relatives requesting that we buy American products on their behalf and bring or ship them there (for full repayment).

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
