Hi,

My fiance and I are going to be starting this process soon, however, he has been laid off of work and is currently looking for employment. Now, is there a length of time he must be working for a specific employer before he can sponsor me?

He is American I am Canadian :)

We would rather not have a co-sponsor.

Thanks in advance!

The longer, the better (obviously) is the short answer. Is there a set amount of time? Not that I've ever seen.

They're going to look at current earnings and most recent year's tax return (possible most recent 3 years if you supply them) - this will give them an idea of both current and previous earnings (presumably this would help in most cases).

Depending on the Visa path you guys choose - you've got a pretty good amount of time to build up the earnings history (ballpark of at least 5-6 months from the time you file).
