There are two questions that touch on that:

What did the Emancipation proclamation do? Answer:-freed the slaves; - freed slaves in the Confederacy; - freed slaves in the Confederate states; - freed slaves in most Southern states

What was ONE important thing that Abraham Lincoln did? Answer: - freed the slaves (Emancipation Proclamation); - saved or preserved the Union; - led the United States during the Civil War

Here is a link to all of the questions in the citizenship test: http://www.uscis.gov/files/nativedocuments/100q.pdf

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

any answer,

I saw the post that mentioned this question as well. This is NOT a question on the test. However, the answer to this question is "Abolitionist movement".

USCIS in a kind and generous move, not only gives you the one hundred questions, but the answers as well in nice bold print you can download at:

Updated USCIS Civics Test and print it out.

Wish college was that easy, many professors would toss in three or four extra credit questions not even covered in the classroom that you needed to get correct to get a 4.0 in that class. With the USCIS, you only need actually on the GPA, below a zero to pass, the IO will read the questions listed in the link verbatim, and all you need to know is six of the possible ten questions that would be asked. They do make it easy for you. One barrier my wife had was the English language, but we had four years to work on that. Our really concenstrated study was less than two hours and by passing, our reward was much better than a gold star. It was getting free from the USCIS after five years. So you really have a very strong motivation factor to study, memorizing is more like it.

This is correct. Unless your application was mailed before October 2008 you will be taking the new test and these questions are on the study list.

The above is not legal advice.

It is either from research or merely my opinion.

I agree. That question is NOT included in the list of questions for the civics test. Just study the 100 questions for your interview and you'll be fine.

Don't make it any more complicated than it is by reading all those books, have a hundred questions, that have a hundred specific answers. Our history may be a very interesting subject as it is with other countries. My wife and I got into it with Colombian and US history, she was taught a very biased version, but we agreed to a British report on the USA relations with Colombia regarding the Panama Canal. Colombian version was we stole that land from them, they conveniently left out a treaty we signed with them.

It took our forefathers eleven years to form our US Constitution, was finally adopted in 1787, can read books on this period, but if they ask, What is the supreme law of the land? Just answer, the US Constitution, no more, no less, can guarantee you, your IO is certainly no historian, wife's IO could barely speak English. You don't have to be born here to get a job with the USCIS. Got a kick our of my wife with the color of our flag, red, white, and blue, she would always answer white, blue, and red, was correct, wasn't asked that anyway. We did discuss the word, "spangled" in that star spangled banner thing, just said Francis Scott Key was a poet, and poets are weird and left it at that. Not even an original tune, someone plagiarized “To Anacreon in Heaven,” for music, for all the song writers we have, doesn't seem right that we don't even have an original nation anthem.

She wonders why our politicians tell dirty rotten lies, it's about winning, not telling the truth, hoping this country was different than hers, but at least here, you can call them a liar. Was good for me to study the civics tests as to how many of our freedoms were taken away. But we set all that aside, and just memorized the hundred answers to the hundred questions. Our reward? Freedom from that terrible USCIS government agency.

How come I had to carry my green card, and not my US citizen certificate? Have no answer for this, would make for a good test question, however. USCIS can't even answer that question. That just randomly make laws.
