I bought my fiancee's ticket from a travel company and they issued me a ticket. I was on the phone with united airlines to ask for the baggage limits and the rep told me that there is a problem with my flight. She said that in the philippines that the ticket has to be sold and ticketed in the philippines. So they are telling me that the travel agency sold me a invalid ticket, is this true?

there are many reasons why a ticket could be considered invalid but not because it was sold through an agency, unless there is a new policy now saying so. the thing is the ticket will be used by your fiance who is inthe philippines but it was sent to you and you're here, which will require you to send it to him. i hope you're talking about an e-ticket in which case there should not be any problem because all you have to do is forward it to him so he can print it.

is the only reason being that it was sold in the philippines? maybe you should check on this again.

i do know that most airlines allow 2 pieces of 23kgs luggage (this limit took effect late last year), and 2 small carry-ons (which includes the smallest size luggage)

Check with the airlines for international flights:

International checked baggage

• Economy: 2 pieces 50 lbs (23 kg) each

Carry-on baggage for worldwide travel

For worldwide travel on United (including travel within the 50 United States, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Canada), you may carry on one bag and one personal item such as a purse, briefcase or laptop computer. Your carry-on bag

  • must fit under your seat or in the overhead bin;
  • should not be more than 9 x 14 x 22 in. (23 x 35 x 56 cm) (length x width x height) or 45 linear inches* (114 linear cm); and
  • may be required to travel as checked baggage if the bag cannot be safely stowed on a particular flight.

*linear measurement = length + width + height

United exempts the following personal items from your one bag and one personal item limit:

  • Child safety seats for ticketed children
  • Assistive devices (canes, crutches, etc.)
  • Outer garments (coats, hats, etc.)

There is a rarely enforced Philippine law that all flights originating from the Philippines must be purchased in the Philippine. AA pulled this on me right after getting fined by the FAA. At the same time NWA told me the same thing. I ended up buying a ticket from a travel agency located in North America with no problems.

Naturalization

You have to verify your ticket. United Airlines has no flight from the philippines. You have to get a flight from the philippines to another country with United airlines flight. BTW, United Airlines has flight from singapore, united airlines would start from there. Philippines to singapore should be bought separately.

Talk to another united airlines representative for more information.

I purchased our tickets from an ageny in California (for NWA). No problem. I don't know how they would even know where the ticket was purchased. The agency cannot charge for the travel tax however - you pay that at the airport (the Filipino only pays the tax).

Correction on my post:

You have to get a flight from the philippines to "another country" using another airlines. Make sure that the "other country" should have united airlines flights..
