My experiences having biometrics taken in NYC.h

I had my biometrics taken at the ASC in Brooklyn. Biometrics for my I-485 and Work Permit. I followed the instructions and bought only what was requested on the letter that they had sent me. I took my passport (as requested). When I arrived the receptionist asked to see my marriage certificate....which i had not been asked to provide.

As I was attending the biometrics as a result of a marriage-based visa application (thus a name change) and because they had not asked to bring along my marriage certificate.

I was told by the receptionist that because my application letter was in a different name than my passport then I would have to make another appointment (at a later date) and bring in the marriage certificate as well.

I asked to see the manager. He gave me some poor excuse, saying it was my responsibility. But in the end he was able to see the absurdity of it, as the notice sent out from USCIS clearly stated that I was to only bring my application letter and my form of ID.

So, the moral of the story is carry all important documents together when going to USCIS. So many different departments handle our Immigration paperwork. Better you be prepared than have to deal with their incompetency.

Yes - always bring the marriage certificate in the case of name change.

Things to bring:

• Original Appointment Letter
• State/Government ID (Passport, Driver's License, etc)
• Marriage Certificate (in case of name change).
