Why don't we try to pick a weekend sometime and a restaurant and meet up for lunch? Those who are able to come, come and then for others we can arrange another event. It would be great to get together with everyone. My husband and I have met Bermycat and her husband, and Karen and Joel who live north east of the City (along with another non-Canadian VJ couple) already - it would be great to meet others as well.

I am game... and since my SO is not yet here... I have no life, so any weekend is good for me :)

We are currently residing in Alabama but we are looking to move into the Atlanta Metro area by the end of the year once my green card has been approved. It would be much appreciated if those of you who live in the metro area can give us some recommendations of where to move and not move in particular. I (UK Citizen) is a Math teacher who can teach from Grades 6-12 is looking for teaching jobs in the area, which counties would you recommend be a great place to live and teach in? We don't want to live in the city itself but rather on the outskirts, I've heard Peachtree City is a good place south of the city but to be honest we are open to suggestions within 50 mile radius of the airport, Thanks!

I just want to say, I hope y'all have a fun meetup :) I am soooo jealous that there are a bunch of VJers in GA. I lived in Marietta for 2 years, then Rome for 4 years. However, when I started this journey, I had just moved to northern New Hampshire (and I haven't found any VJers in the near vicinity). If I ever move back to GA, I am stalking y'all

I can recommend the Stockbridge area - it is where I live. It is in Henry County about 20 miles south of Atlanta proper. Lots of nice areas in which to live and reasonably priced. I don't know about the school quality, though, as I don't have children. I would say to avoid anything in Clayton County if you are looking to teach and live - the school board has a lot of problems and last year lost their accreditation because of problems with the Board. They have been re-instated but they are still having problems. I know we also have a Canadian VJer in the Peachtree City area and another in the Conyers area. Conyers and McDonough are also both nice communities south of the City and I wouldn't mind living in either one. McDonough is also in Henry County - not sure about Conyers.

Autumnchik - it would be lovely to have you back here in Georgia!

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

JimandChristy - I'm a teacher in GA so if you have any particular questions let me know. Yes, stay away from Clayton County for now. Cobb County is a good school system but competitive for jobs. South of the city is excellent, Henry County would be great. Math is also a great teachable since it is incredibly in demand now.

TeachGeorgia.org is a great place to find out where the current jobs are and when job fairs are.

Good luck.

Thanks! I've looked at TeachGeorgia and there are very few jobs going at the moment in the Metro area. Now I assume this is because I am out of cycle because schools have started back already, how does one go about applying for substitute teaching instead in a school district? I've also been doing some research myself via google and counties which seem to be favourable with Georgia teachers are:

North Fulton, Cobb, Cherokee, Paulding, Gwinnett, Spalding, Henry and Forsyth. I'm not sure whether I should target these places by the performance of the schools first or by the wide range of facilities and amenities etc the county can offer. Also I will have to go through certification procedures since my teaching credentials are acquired in the UK. Hopefully that can be done while working and I don't know whether that procedure varies by county.

I live in Decatur. Waiting on NOA-2, could be any day now. There are at least a couple of other Atlanta-area VJ'ers from the Russia forum alone. That would be great to have a get-together that would be open to filers who are waiting on their fiance(e)s as well as couples. If in October, I vote for weekends of the 9th, 23rd or 30th.

Hey y'all! I would love to have a Georgia VJ meet up...Kathryn and I mentioned it a while back but it seemed no one was ready or able. My hubby (the Canadian) and I live in Demorest GA - Habersham County. I am currently an assistant in the White County Schools and college student trying to finish that degree so I can be a "real" teacher. LOL... Anywho, if anyone wants to come to the mountains my hubby works at Unicoi State Park...lots of camping, cabins, and a lodge with a great restaurant. Demorest is about two hours northeast of Kathryn and the others. Near Unicoi is Alpine Helen Ga...lovely little German town with lots of great things to do.

Hey, we're up for most anything...just let me know when and where and we'll try to be there!!!

I live in Newnan, GA and I work in Peachtree City. Newnan is building up pretty quickly and is a nice place to live. Peachtree City is an expensive place to live.

I would loveeee to meet everyone! Yea, sometime in October would give everyone enough time. I work Monday - Friday. Weekend would be best for me. What about everyone else? Seems like Atlanta would be a middle point for everyone?

I know a woman that owns a Mathnasium in Smyrna (Cobb County). She is always looking for good math tutors and it's after school hours. That sort of thing might be good to supplement your income until you get back in sync with the school year.

I'm bumping this thread and hopefully getting this get-together back on track.

I LOVE the idea of Unicoi State Park - this is a great idea.

I suggest the 24th or the 31st (perhaps the 24th I am not sure if people have Halloween plans)

What do you all think? Please give suggestions if someone has a better idea. Let's get this back on track!
