My brother leaving in Australia and his I-130 has been approved. What is the next step we need to do?

Thanks for reply.

You need to provide more information. Who petitioned for your brother? Is the petitioner a USC or LPR? How old is your brother? Is he married? What is his priority date (date that the I-130 was submitted to the USCIS)?

He petitioned by USC and married with 2 small children. It was many years ago my sibling petitioned for him. My advise to him is to check with the US embassy there. Is this correct?

Thanks.

It takes about 11-12 years for a USC to petition for a sibling from Malaysia. Depending on the relationship between the petitioner and the beneficiary, cases are placed in different categories with different time to be eligible for an immigration visa. Your brother is in the F4 family preference category. Approval is only the first step. Your brother has to wait for an available visa in his category. The US only gives out 65,000 of these visas annually in the F4 category. There are probably 750,000 people waiting for visas in this category (numbers of visa available each year x typical wait for a visa).

Once a petition is approved, it is forwarded to the National Visa Center (NVC) to wait for an available visa. The NVC and US Embassy will not contact the petitioner or the beneficiary again until a visa is almost available. There is no harm if your brother chooses to check with the local US Embassy. However, his total wait time will be 11-12 years from the date the petition was filed for him.

Good luck.
