Guys,

In your honest opinion, what do you think of Gardasil? Do you think this is an important shot for every woman between the ages of 12-26? Or do you think it’s nothing more than a pharmaceutical drug used to grease government palms and reap high revenue? Has anyone who has ever received this shot experienced any problems or side effects? Seriously, this shot should be pro-choice not required for entrance into America!

You know, I 100% agree with you.

I don't want this shot what so ever, but thanks to the immigration regulations, I have to get it.

I also have to pay 130 dollars for the first shot, as I have no medical plan anymore.

I also don't know if I should complete it when I get to the US or you can go without getting the other 2 shots.

You actually can go without getting the shot, but you're likely to be denied because of it.

The fact that they don't have any long term proof on this drug is what's bad, they don't know what it'll do to our bodies in 10 - 15 years. And that's scary.

Even though I'm overall not against vaccinations, I'm not particularly happy with the idea of this one. I'm glad it wasn't a requirement in my case. (Actually, I'm glad no shots were needed.)

I've gotten my first shot in the series and so far had no adverse reaction. I also believe that it's only being required for the purpose of making Merk Pharmaceutical's money, they must be a strong supporter of someone who makes the immigration rules.

That being said, everyone needs a bandwagon its just a fact. More people will die of cervical cancer than will die from getting this shot. The choice should be ours to make, but lifes not fair.

I think possibly she might be outside of the age limit when the vaccine is necessary. That's just my guess.

I'm too old for Gardasil, but otherwise we're not exempt. It's just that the shots from the list are what pretty much every Croatian gets, starting from the moment they're born.

It isn't. The HPV shot is required for women under 27 only and she probably had all the other needed vaccines as a child. My wife had no vaccinations (except her childhood ones, of course) and has already completed her AOS. We didn't need any for the two boys either, they had all they needed as young children. The FSU and many of the former Eastern Bloc countries were quite good about giving child vaccinations and keeping records of it. Probably the easiest thing in our whole journey was getting the immunization records of all three.

I think or rather I read on here it's possible to get a waiver for vaccinations under religious or ethical reasons but I think it involves more paperwork and possibly money and time?

Other ways of being exempt would be if it was not age appropriate in gardasils case 27 and up or medically inappropriate. For example the doctor would sign off medically inappropriate if your wife was know to allergic to the ingredients of vaccine.

I had my first gardasil shot in may and my sister completed hers in may as the usual school vaccinations in uk. Let's just say we had different experiences. She was fine .

Interesting-

I can understand getting vaccinations for diseases that the US does not want to spread... but Gardisal? That isn't a contagious disease. That should TOTALLY be your choice whether or not to have it. What is their reasoning on that??

Gardasil is the vaccine not the disease. The disease is HPV and it is highly contagious.

I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS VACCINE IS REQUIRED FOR IMMIGRATION!!! :o:angry:

Most (about 65%) of HPV infections are successfully fought off by the body’s immune system within a year of exposure.

Gardasil prevents infection from only four of some 30 to 40 strains of the HPV virus.

_________________________________________________________

Are only women required to get this shot for immigration?

I did not see it in the list of required vaccinations...

I do not trust it! :(

The more I read about this the angrier I get....

Gardasil Vaccine Mandatory for Immigrants

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services recently released a mandate requiring immigrating girls and young women to provide proof of human papillomavirus vaccination (HPV) before obtaining U.S. citizenship. Gardasil, the major brand name under Merck & Co., is used to prevent infection of HPV, which causes 70 percent of cervical cancer and 90 percent of genital wart cases. The new regulation goes against the advice of John Abramson, a chairman of the Center for Disease Control (CDC), who says that HPV is not a highly communicable disease like SARS or pandemic flu and therefore should not be a required vaccination. Furthermore, Gardasil is not a mandatory vaccination for U.S. citizens, making it seem as though the U.S. is treating immigrating citizens as test subjects for a highly priced vaccine that has many reported side effects, one being death.

http://www.gardasilhpv.com/2008/09/gardasi...datory-for.html

Earlier this week the National Vaccine Information Center (www.NVIC.org) called on the Obama Administration and Congress to investigate Gardasil vaccine risks. NVIC has long questioned the inappropriate influence of vaccine manufacturers in federal vaccine licensing and policymaking and state vaccine mandates. In 2006, Merck's Gardasil vaccine was fast tracked by the FDA at Merck's request and in 2007 Merck lobbyists mounted an aggressive lobbying campaign to get Gardasil mandated by state legislators for all sixth grade girls, which would have assured the big drug company a predictable market.

check your required list again Japrincess - should be right there

Human Papillomavirus (Gardasil) Required for females ages 11 to 26 years.

I was told at the medical you HAVE to have the first shot for the medical / at the medical if you are in this age bracket and have not had it. It is not coverd by OHIP in canada and is costly. I was told after this when I file for AOS I have to have proof of continuing the shots and finishing them. They said you can possibly get denial for your AOS if you dont have them.

Having said that I dont agree with it, I had to get mine, it burned but I had no side effects from it afterwards not even a sore arm which I found strange. Tho im very reluctant to get the rest of them as the first shot is the lowest of the 3 and they get stronger as the dosage goes up.. im hoping my birthday will pass before I file AOS...

going to edit to add this - its from the Society of Obstetricians and gynacologists of canada

For most, the HPV virus will clear up on its own. There are no signs or symptoms and the virus is usually harmless.

What you need to know:

All types of the HPV virus can persist. Some types are considered "high risk" and "low risk" and can cause:

1.Genital and ####### warts - In women warts can appear on the vulva, urethra, cervix, #######, ####### or thighs; in men, warts can appear on the #######, #######, ####### or thighs.

2.Pre-cancerous lesions and cancer in the cervix, ####### and other genital areas.

The HPV virus is transmitted through skin-to-skin contact during a sexual encounter, even if there is no penetration. It is a bit like transmitting bacteria through your hands, most people who come in contact with your bacteria do not get sick and there are no signs or symptoms from this encounter.
