Immigration officer comes to your house??

I have not heard of this anywhere on VJ, and it seems a bit far fetched to me, but I would not be surprised were it true.... a friend of mine knows someone who was visited by an officer, and he wanted to see their living situations (ie, were they living as a married couple)!!

Apparently it happens to a few people down in southern california, but I have never heard of it before! Has it happened to anyone here? Is it just something of the past?

Not that I am worried, cause it would work in our favour! But would like to be prepared for a scary knock on the door!

Our time line for CR1 visa took only 5 months and 1 week or 156 days; from the filing the I-130 on the 03-12-2009 to Approval of NOA2 on the 05/13/2009, then Interview on the 08/18/2009 at Manila, Philippines. We had a daughter on the 11-12-2010 named AISHA JOY means HAPPY LIFE.a1_opt-1.jpga2_opt-1.jpga3_opt-1.jpg

It happened to two couples I know but they both live in Europe. One in Belgium and the other in Spain. The officer's visit wasn't a big deal- everything was ok and the visit wasn't stressful for them.

Your friend made a big mistake in letting ICE enter the premises. They are only allowed to enter if they have a warrant.

They are also allowed to enter if invited in.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Correct. For now at least, we still have the right to say (politely) "I do not wish to answer any questions," and to decline their request to enter without a warrant. An excellent twist on this is "Sir, I'd love to answer your questions, but my attorney would KILL me. Sorry!"

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I can't think of any quicker way to make ICE think "these two have something to hide" than telling them to Foxtrot Oscar (even politely :P).

Much as I'd despise having them turn up at our place and ask us questions, I'd certainly wouldn't tell them to go away and come back with a warrant.... because they probably would!

At least until our Fourth & Fifth Amendment rights erode further, they are bound by the remaining requirements thereof. I believe it equally likely that the reaction would be "You're kidding! These people actually know their rights! We'd better double-check our suspicions and proceed only if we're CERTAIN of what we think we have."
Much as I'd despise having them turn up at our place and ask us questions, I'd certainly wouldn't tell them to go away and come back with a warrant.... because they probably would!
Then make them go through that process. NO governmental official should have carte blanche to do to us what they will purely on the basis of our fears. If you begin to answer questions on THEIR agenda and THEIR timetable, you can get into a whale of a lot of trouble before you know it. Only a judge can order you to answer questions. Make it clear that any questions will be answered in due time in the proper venue. Edited by TBoneTX

Never heard about that but since everything is true there is nothing to fear.
On what authority do you claim with such assurance that there is nothing to fear, especially if you "never heard about" it?

Thanks for your responses... and I am sure they wont come. If they do, then I will be more than happy to show them around.... I know my marriage and the way we are living is legitimate, and I am sure it would be obvious to anyone entering our home. I agree that if anyone were to turn the officer down, that would not look good. He is going to leave with the immediate impression that you are not living as a married couple, and have something to hide.

Well, since when I need authority to express that:

1 - it's true that I've never heard about it

2 - As far as I know, each of us are free to post our comments based on our experience, no one here is an attorney or gives legal advices (well some might be but most are not).

3 - If one day they came to my house I would have absolutely NOTHING to fear since my marriage is for true love and I have never lied to US Immigration.

So, don't try "fear" for me when my fears or no fears are none of your business.

Peace. :star::luv:

You are right! Since everything is legitimate, true and right you would have no problems with Immigration in your house. Good luck on your interview, God bless you. :star::luv:
