Hello VJers,

I have successfully got my immigrant visa (IR1) and entered to the US a few days ago.

Now I am trying to apply to a college, but having a difficulty because of A number.

A sheet on the envelop that I got from the US embassy Tokyo after my IV interview says that my A number is Axxxxxxxx (8 digits).

The number without the letter "A" is also shown on my immigrant visa under the "Registration Number" section as well.

Does anybody know if this is the correct A number?

I have researched about A number a little and found that it should have 10 digits.

If it is 10 digit number, do I have to wait till I get my green card to know my A number?

Is there any other way to find that out?

BTW, I went for the DCF route and don't see A number on any of the forms that I got from the US embassy.

I am afraid that I miss the deadline of the college application because I don't receive my GC in time.

So, A number can be 8 digits...

Hmm... but there is just "**" under annotation on my visa.

Look at the top right hand corner of your visa and it should be the second from the top under "Registration Number"

On your visa it is shown as a 8 digit number without an A in front of it. I.e. xxxxxxxx

On your green card it is the same 8 digit number but instead shown with an A-0 prefix. I.e. A-0xxx-xxx-xxx

It's good to know the Registration Number is the A number without A (and 0).
