Congrats on applying for Marriage license. How soon you would be married? :luv:

About Cancer, congrats again

Thanks everyone for the congrats! :)

And we aren't 100% actually. It's really confusing. Brazil bureaucracies are really confusing! The courthouse told us that if we choose to get married in the courthouse it's a 35-90 day wait (averaging out at 45 days), but if we get married outside of the courthouse -ie. the church- then it's only a 16 day wait!!! So Del (when he goes to pick up a paper we need today) is going to ask them if we have to give them a date for a church wedding when we apply for the license or if they will give US a date, like tell us anytime after xx/xx/xx is okay.

It gets even more complicated because Del is divorced. We're 7th Day Adventists and they aren't so big on divorce. A person can only get married in the church once, unless there are certain reasons (like adultery) for divorce. There was no adultery in Del's previous marriage but there were other reasons that the church SOMETIMES considers valid and sometimes doesn't. We have talked to one pastor that considers these reasons valid enough and said that he would marry Del and I in his church, but we've talked to another guy who said that he was sorry and wouldn't be allowed to perform the ceremony. The church will still recognize us as married no matter how we get married (even if we got married in the courthouse), it's just a matter of whether a 7th day pastor could perform the ceremony. So basically, we need to know whether we need to call this pastor who has agreed and go ahead and set a date (about 20 days from now) or if the courthouse will give us a date when the license will be ready and then we can work on setting a day (probably also about 20 days from now!). So who knows.....I told you it was confusing!

I'm officially saying, in about 20 days..or before the end of August! Del's last marriage was September 7th (which is actually also a Sunday this year -Sunday is the day we'd be married on)...so I'm really hoping it doesn't end up being that day!!

Mmmm Sept 7 is Monday, I can say this for sure because Sept 8 is our 5th wedding anniversary and its on Tuesday this year.

And yes things are a bit confusing in Brazil, its kinda same for India too, if you do court marriage you wait for 45 days, but you can always marry at some religious place and then register the marriage within a week.

Hahaha...you're right, it's a Monday! :) Well that settles that.

And it's not that simple. I have to pay more if we wait 45 days. I have to pay R$8.30 (about US$4) for every day that I am here (it started on July 21st) because my visa is expired. The Federal Police told me it was fine, as long as when I go to apply for my permanent status I pay the $R8 a day). $4 a day isn't so much, but add it up for every day and that's a lot!!! So waiting 45 days isn't really the best option. We don't really care how we get married here...we are having the big religious thing when we get to the US! But if we get married in the church here then we only wait 16 days, and if we get married in the courthouse we wait 45. That's a difference of $116 (which isn't really that much I know....but every little bit counts and it won't be a big hassle for us to get married in the church, we just have to talk to the pastor that already agreed and decide on a date). That's just the difference of the wait as well. If we end up getting married in the church it will still be only Me, Del, and our 2 witnesses. We're having a little party a day or two later at a separate venue for the rest of the people and the big "wedding" will be in the US when we get back.

Morning everyone. Today is a bad day. Can barely stay awake. Attempting to order my books online for my fall classes. Trying to figure out how I'm going to make food and stuff for my friend's bridal shower next Sunday. Her sister said she'd drive me to buy all the food stuff, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to actually make any of it. I need an assistant!

Marina that's great news about your cancer and about the marriage certificate! So happy the divorce is finally over.

Amber, #######. How can you possibly volunteer for a cookout less than 1 week after surgery? you are nuts --- tell them to hire another caterer damnit!

I said I would do it BEFORE I decided to have surgery. I only decided to have surgery a week before I actually had the surgery. I cooked dinner last night, but fell asleep before I could eat it

Ok quick ignorant stupid question. We are out of food, and I am not going to do any grocery shopping since we will be leaving in a few days for vacation.

I never made pbj ever in my life, do I have to toast the bread before I spread peanut butter and jelly or leave it untoasted?
