Spam Feature Proposal (How to catch a spammer)

In all seriousness though I think I am able to make the spam tool pretty robust to prevent abuse. Abuse additionally would result in maybe a 30 day suspension so it would be a serious penalty. Add that to the fact that a single "report" would not trigger an automated flag -- maybe the system would require 3 or more reports, etc..

I see the mods making 2-3 "catches" on potential spammers per day. Mostly they catch people before they even post. Additionally if this allows them to "relax" and focus on moderation it will improve the quality of the time they can spend on that. Same for me in terms of being able to spend more time on areas that help the most.

I am completely custom coding this from scratch. I tend to like to "custom" code items like this because then I am not at the mercy of the "forum software company" to develop and maintain this and I can craft it both to be "good" and to be "safe".

That is an admin issue. I do not want people trying to "figure" out who people are. It would be a "guess" without the server info we have available.

OK as it has been added I had accidently hit the report button now trying to go to top. Now I think I got it figured out. let us see how this goes. What was it today or yesterday there was a spammer I hit report cause either the spam was not there or the fact that I did not realize it. Hope the new feature works out Capt

I have enabled the SPAM feature. If you spot a spammer feel free to use it. It has plenty of checks to prevent abuse (including me getting #@$@ on people who try to ).

Once a spammer has been reported by enough people their account will be 'frozen' pending admin review. This will effectively stop them (lets hope). I have tested this out to the best of my ability as the tool appears to be working great. I really hope it helps!!

Sounds good. By requiring multiple people to flag it as spam, you reduce the chance of abuse.
