Hey all,

Our K-1 visa was just approved on Tuesday! Yay! And yet...at the interview in Guayaquil, Ecuador, we were never even asked to show our Affidavit of Support/ 134 forms or supporting evidence, much less hand them over. So I'm beginning to have doubts...It seems like the consulate may have made a serious boo-boo (not at all surprising considering other VJ members' experiences with this consulate), since I was under the impression that evidence of financial support is of utmost importance to the interview/approval process. Has this happened to anyone else?

I'll be posting a full review of the consulate and details of our interview in the next days. Meanwhile, any thoughts on this situation? I'm a little nervous that they'll realize their mistake and "un-approve" us....AHHH!!

Do you have the visa in hand?

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

There are a few consulates that do not require financial support documents, I have heard Juarez is one. Most do, and given the horror stories I have read coming out of Ecuador I am surprised. We will know the answer to your question when the visa is delivered.

I wonder if the person just made a mistake. They probably do so many of those a day that they may forget to check a form here & there.

If the visa is already approved then I wouldn't worry about it. Just be prepared in case they request it later or something. And congrats on your approval! ^_^

05-11-2009: NOA1

05-20-2009: called the Military Help Line and requested for expedite

06-04-2009: NOA2

06-14-2009: NVC letter received in the mail

07-02-2009: Packet 4 received

08-27-2009: Interview - Visa approved!

09-03-2009: visa in hands.

09-20-2009: POE - Miami

09-21-2009: we got married!

AOS TIMELINE:

05-12-2010: NOA1

06-08-2010: Case transferred to CSC

06-21-2010: Biometrics

Big congrats, si man!!!!! Read my PM to you -- very important.

No, Guayaquil didn't care about our financials, either. Their focus is solely on evidence of relationship, and on being devious, untruthful, and evil.

Major warning: You are NOT out of the woods in the slightest until your visa is IN HAND!!!!! Do not trust this outfit as far as you could kick them (and kicking would be wholly inadequate). I do hope that the forewarnings from us previous victims helped you avert the endemic disaster that awaits the unsuspecting at this hellhole.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

General information for all:

1. It is rare, but consulates CAN and DO rescind issued visas.

2. No one (especially Ecuador filers) can ever fully relax until the fiance(e) is safely THROUGH the port of entry and admitted INSIDE the United States.
