My daughter lives in the USA. Her fiance lives in the UK. They have applied and have been approved on the US side. Now he has to submit his papers on his side and wait for the interview. The issue is that they want to get married now. My daughter wants to fly to the UK get married not to hurry the visa process but because they simply want to get married now. If she does go to the UK to get married, how will this affect the further processing of his paperwork which includes the interview. Will they have to resubmit new paperwork from finance to now married and the process starts all over or will the paperwork that has already been approved on the US side still be used to process his visa? Can anyone help me with an answer?

She's better off waiting for the K-1 process to finish.

Them marrying voids the K-1 paperwork, and they would have lost all the money and time they already put into the process.

She's better off being patient and holding off marriage until he gets to the US.

They would have to start all over again, pay all fees again, and wait months again.

Unless she has very good reasons she wants to get married now/ get married in the UK, I strongly suggest waiting till the K1 is approved and get married in the USA.

Plus, she would have to get a fiance visa to get married in the UK, wait for it to be approved, and be over there for 21 days minimum in order to get married (due to bans reading and delivery of a marriage license). If they plan to come back to the US to live, they have to start over with either K3 or CR1.. more waiting.

Ian and Lisa,

Nice. We often forget on this forum that other countries have their own immigration laws regulating foreign citizens entering their countries with the intent to marry. If a person need a K1 visa to come to the US to get married, then it makes sense that the US citizen would need a similar visa to travel to a foreign country to marry.

I think if she really need to get married she can but have to remember

1. Don't sign any paper to proof that they are married (NO Married Certificate sign)

2. Don't show any pictures of their wedding to the embassy on the interview date

You can have a wedding party without a real wedding. That's mean they can invite people to their Reception only

I understand how she feel and I think this is the better way to get married with out any problem with their K1 Visa.

Because K1 Visa mean you want to came over to US with Fiance status not Husband. Have to told her that too!!!
