applying for a visa to the US is a completely separate thing (even if you have a european visa, you have to apply for a US visa) here in the US au pairs are called baby sitters and nannies, so if you're going to apply as one you have to to apply through an agency. it's very unlikely that you will get a working visa through that because it requires a lot of justification from the agency (like why they have to hire you (a foreigner) when there are so many baby sitters/nannies here already) .

you said you have a student visa? you can apply for a student visa to the US but you have to prove that you have the means and the sincere interest to study, and later on explain what happened to your studies in europe ex. did you study and work or work most of the time?

your best bet at coming here will be as a student...once you're here then you probably work part time.

I was an aupair in the US but I came through an Agency. To be honest I think it's going to be quite impossible to get a working permit for the US for an independent aupair. And I havnt met one aupair from the Phillippines so I dont know if there's agency there.

Your boyfriend will be unlikely to be hire as an aupair. it's quite exclusively for girls. I have yet to see a male au pair.

As for student visa.. good luck with that, I have no suggestion on that one. But I heard it's very difficult for the Phillippines to get it (same as Thai).

I am agree with Anya. I was an au pair in US also.

au pair in US hold J-1 visa, to be an au pair in Us you need to have a program support you ( although, au pair in US is not just nanny/baby sister, kind of more like student exchange visitor)

some of mine apply for student visa (F-1 ?, I think) after done program, for that you need to have a document from school that you apply for, to shown at embassy that you be accepted to study and also while you here as student you need to keep collect credit in certain amount that visa required too.

Since you say you are in Netherlands, look around local colleges - there should be a local agency that has AuPair programs.

For example, www.bhveducation.com does that for Bosnia and Croatia. You need to go and submit application in person and do some tests I think before they start looking for your host-family. Also you pay around 500 EUR that upon successful completion of the program is refunded to you.

I dont know if you can apply to be an aupair through an agency that's not in your own country.. I worked in the aupair office for a while and that's never came up. you can try - I dont know.

If you still want to come to America, Au Pair in America is the one I used. check out their website (just google it), you have to see if you have to apply in your own country or you can apply from Europe.. there're several countries in Europe that have Au Pair in America office including Germany, Czech, and Sweden. call them up to see if they will take you. The website should have local offices information.

I came through Cultural Care Au Pair, I highly recommend them. You will need to apply for a J-1 visa but the agency will walk you through all that, it's very easy.

I think that the J-1 is a sponsored visa, so you will need an agency to act as your sponsor. Including air fares, I paid about $2700AUD to the agency which really isn't a lot of money considering it's a 12-month minimum trip (you can extend the J-1 visa for an additional 6, 9 or 12 months once you are there). It is also good to have the agency because they will back you up if you don't get along with your host family, if you host family mistreats you (I've seen it happen), if you get into trouble of some sort, etc. They will also introduce you to the other au pairs in the area and hold monthly meetings so that you have a support network.

July 2007 - met Jesse at a beach party held by mutual friends in Long Island, NY

May 2008 - J-1 visa expired, had to move back to Australia

July 2008-September 2008 - lived with Jesse for three months in Staten Island, NY

March 2009 - Jesse comes to Australia for 3 weeks

April 2009 - Engaged!

10/01/09 - due to fiance's illness, we are abandoning pursuit of K-1 at this point. Packet 3 received from consulate but won't be returned.

Getting an F-1 visa is very easy (I have had 2). Essentially, unless you have had immigration troubles previously in the US you are guaranteed to get it. All you need to do is find a school of some sort that accepts foreign students and follow their directions. HOWEVER studying in the US is NOT cheap, and under no circumstances will you be legally allowed to work on an F-1 visa. If you are interested in the F-1 option just find the website of a school you like and read their foreign student section.

Good Luck

I just re-read and noticed the part of your post that asks if you can be an "au pair couple" with your boyfriend. I am 99% sure this won't be possible in the US for a number of reasons - the agency most likely wouldn't allow it, the host family generally only has room/money to support one au pair (since the host family is fully responsible for your accomodation and all of your food costs, plus many of them pay for your cell phones, gas, internet, etc), and I doubt you'd find a host family that would be entriely comfortable having a couple living together in their house with their kids.

My host family initially had a rule that NO boys were allowed in the house under ANY circumstances... when Jesse and I began dating, they met him a few times before they allowed him to stay over, and he only ever stayed very occasionally. I always asked their permission before I had him over because their house, their rules.

By all means, ask the agency this question when/if you enquire, because they'd be able to give you a very clear answer.

Your best bet is to go through an au pair agency, some of them even accept guys I think Cultural Au Pair. As said in the previous posts, I do not think that a family and the agency would accept a couple, however maybe you could work in separate families but in the same city.

You need to go through an au pair agency to get the J1 visa, this agency will find a family for you, but if you want to find a family on your own that would fit you better I advise that you look on the website GreatAuPair. I used this website to find my family and then we both registered in the same AuPair Agency in order to get the J1.

The website registration is free for au pairs, only families have to pay. As families have to pay to see your profile there is less risk of scammers.
