Around 1,500 orphaned gnomes have been saved from a grisly fate after a 500-mile rescue mission in Australia.

According to the Sydney Telegraph, the drama unfolded after an elderly lady in the town of Cootamundra died and left her impressive collection behind her.

However, the new owners of the property planned to get rid of the little folk, and a sorry end in the back of a skip looked likely.

Fortunately, the late collector's solicitor got in touch with the Australian Gnome Convention for advice on disposing of the ornaments, prompting "Gnome Master" David Cook to organise a rescue mission.

The four-member squad, backed up by helpful locals, took four hours to load the weather-beaten gnomes - ranging from tiny fridge magnets to 1.5m "mega-gnomes" - into two vehicles and a trailer.

The homeless gnomes will now be found foster homes around the Blue Mountains, although they are likely to be reunited next January for the sixth annual gathering of the Convention.

The event, held in the town of Glenbrook ("the spiritual home for Australia's gnomes"), now attracts more than 1,000 gnomes each year, with some travelling from overseas to attend.

gnomes scare me.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).
