Ok I just have to vent on this... earlier this year I setup a myspace account to share photos with friends and family when I am overseas... Its a great way to keep everyone updated on what is going on with us... Here's the rub... A day or two after I setup the account I had over 50 friend requests from current or former students, I have over 1500 students each year.. since when are students friends?... then the people that I went to high school and college with that were too good to have anything to do with me at the time want to be my friend... #######? It is kind of a good feeling to click ignore on someone that was a pr!ck throughout the years we went to school together... The people I was friends with in school I stayed in contact with.... the others are not in my life now for some reason or another...

Why are these people trying to connect with me when they had nothing to do with me before... I think I have done pretty well for myself and am way up there on Maslow's Hierarchy of needs... I didnt setup the myspace account to prove I am popular or collect friends... Its just another resource or utility for me...

I recently read that Bill Gates had to stop using Myspace because of the thousands of friends requests.. Why would someone want to have him on their list if they did not know him other than to address some insecurity... I want to tell them.. good god people .. grow up and enjoy life with the people that you have in it... Need friends? go make some! Got no friends? find out why!

If it is requests from your students you should be flattered that they think that highly of you that they would want to request you as a friend. It means you are most likely a good teacher that students respect. Good teachers are hard to come by.

As far as pricks from the past ignore them. There is nothing that says you have to be friends with them. Snub them if you wish.

You may want to create a FaceBook page instead. The privacy controls are a little better on that site.

Or, you can delete your myspace account and create a new profile with a different moniker then your actual name and maybe not have a pic of you on the display page. When you go to request a friend you can leave them a msg explaining who you are.

Hope this helps.

Well if you have no interest in what there up to, ignore them.(high school kids) If it were me I would interested in what they had to say, if they took some responsibility for there actions or whatever. That was high school, people grow up.

As far as Bill Gates, he is loaded, sure lots of people want to be friends with him

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
