This might be a silly question but...

How did you fill out the name part of the I-129F for your fiance? As you MENAs must know, in Egypt we have a first name, father's name, grandfather's name, great grandfather's name, family name (this is how my fiance's name works). The I-129F asks for a Family name, first name, middle name. I tried inserting his first name, then the 3 following names under middle, and his family name for family name but there was not enough space for that in the middle name section. I know this might be a silly question but I don't want anything to delay this process! His family name isn't technically on his birth certificate or his ID card because it cuts off after the first 4 names....

Suggestions? Am I freaking out over something trivial? For work and such he goes by his first name and third name... I put this under "other names". What did you guys do?

We just used 3 names(instead of his 4) on our forms and didnt list the others under "other names". This worked fine for us.

like this:

family name: last name

middle name: grandfathers name

first name: first name

Are you saying that his birth certificate and ID show his grandfathers name as his last name? I think Im confused. Is that common there?

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

I can understand your frustration. What we did is we used his first and second name on his passport and the very last name on the passport. That is his name here. My husband had no documentation of his family name on any legal paperwork so we were informed by immigration this is what to do. I hope this helps!

Also, any other names used we put the family name there.

We wrote my name, my dad's name, then my last name... We attached a note on which we wrote my full name with other notes concerning address... You should be fine if you do that too :) Good luck!!

We did his first name, his father's name for middle name, and his last name (great great grandfather's name) for his last name. In the area where you write the name in the native language, he wrote his full name with all the names.

We did the same as Tasha and Amy.

Of the four names....(I actually spoke to a rep at the embassy for help on this during the interview process) we used: First name, 2nd name/Dad's name as middle name and the 4th name/great grandfather as his last name. That is now our last name here.

Actually when we submitted the first forms (i 129) I had only put his first name and dads name as his family name thinking this would be fine. They corrected us by sending the "receipt" with this full name! Once I saw that I was so concerned about it getting screwed up before interview thats what started my inquires w/ the embassy. But thank god everything turned out fine! (F)

Best of luck!!

Thanks so much everyone! Doing all of this is making me a NERVOUS WRECK as you might imagine!

Y's_habibitk: His ID and passport have his first name, father's name, grandfather's name, and great grandfather's name... then it cuts off so does not include family name. I guess this is common. However, I'm Egyptian as well and my ID has my first name, an additional name (like the US system) THEN my father's name, grandfather's name... and instead of great grandfather's name it has our family name. Shoo... tooooo many names! :)

Yes, its very common in Egypt. Typically on the ID's...its the first name, fathers name, grandfather and great grandfathers typically.

It's strange how they have things there but my husband's law degree, family id are the same as his name here. One thing that is different is his mastercard in Egypt. It has his first three names.
