Why does she has to undergo another TB test for AOS? All she need to do is to complete her vaccination and have her medical transcribed by a civil surgeon.

It's the new medical policy that USCIS requires for AOS applicants. It became effective on May 1, 2008 but with a grace period of one month. So, it came into full effect June 1, 2008. Here's the link.

My medical exam in St. Luke's was May 2008 and I was covered with the grace period given. However, I decided to go for TST for the "just in case" reasons since we didn't want to get an RFE and delay the AOS process. Besides, the CS didn't honor my chest x-ray from St. Luke's. Fortunately, my TST result was negative which is not very common among Filipinas.

Now I am wondering if you are a real Filipina  lol! jk lang te Riza :P

Tell that to my stalker.. lol:) Most Filipinos gets TST positive is what I meant.

I was TST positive as well.. I got tested here in the US but it wasn't because of the AOS requirement. I am in line with the grace period but I just took the TST because as what Riza said.. "just in case" but as expected I got positive TST. They had me took another X ray after just 4 months intervals from my previous at St. Lukes (and has the same result)and as what you said again Riza it's like the St. Lukes X ray is useless. First I was required to undergo 6 months treatment with the medicine that has a strong side effect. After 2 months of taking it.. here comes another test//Quantiferon test and the doctor told me to stop the medication if it turned out negative. And indeed, it was negative..so medicine was stopped! They can't even give accurate reason. They said I got positive probably because of the BCG vaccine but the Quantiferon test doesn't affect the previous BCG vaccine. I'ts just crazy protocols and aliens in this country like us have to suffer. I have to undergo Xray every year to make sure that I won't develop the disease in a later part.

Bottom line.. the P10+ fees for our medical exam at St. Lukes is really not worth it. Some doctors in the US "junk" our xray results and some don't. It's up to you to decide what's best for your health.

Siguro di ako binigyan ng BCG noon kaya negative result ko :D

Wow Vids, you have to undergo X-ray every year?

For the new visa applicants (from June 2008 to present), like it or not, they really have to undergo TST when they file for AOS because it's the new medical policy for the Adjustment of Status. And when the result is positive, another X-ray.

Just want to share my opinion regarding the chest X-ray and TB skin test.

I think the chest X-ray that every applicant should undergo in St. Lukes is useless and hazardous after the USCIS change policies on medical issues, specifically the TST (TB skin test).

A friend of mine who is in the US now just had her chest X-ray 3 months ago back in the Philippines. They just filed her AOS where one of the requirements is the TST. As expected, she was positive (most Filipinas get a positive TST). The bad news is, she had to undergo another chest X-ray to make sure she is not a TB carrier (doctors here don't honor the X-ray result from the Philippines). She's worried because of the radiation exposure since she just had X-ray a few months ago.

I hope that the USCIS will be able to look into this matter. It would have been better if TST be conducted in the Philippines before X-ray. That way, the expenses are lesser and most importantly, the applicant's health is safely guarded from radiation exposure.

What's your opinion about this?

I question your facts and figures, but as far as Marie, the Xray is on the side of the refrigerator, a souvenier of St. Lukes. Periodic chest Xray screens are still used here in the US, especially if there is a history of smoking.

I am positive of TST too. I had to take TST last Feb 2009 as part of the work requirement so I have no choice but to take it but I am happy that the X-ray result was negative. Then last month, I got a mail from the hospital where I am working at and it says that everybody should have annual TST. I was like "again?" They didn't let me have the TST, instead they let me sign a waiver after telling them that I was positive in it but neg sa xray. According to them, once that you are positive in TST then you'll always be positive even after you took the medication, so it will be useless if i'll take TST again knowing the result will be positive :)

I got a positive TB skin test here, bec. that is one of the requirements in school. after I had my x-ray the result is negative for TB. The nurse explained once you are positive you have TB but is not active in your body. She said that many cases in the Phils of Tubercolosis. I told her that i had a BCG when i was a child. she said, that BCG is good only for 15 years thats why America dont use that vaccine here.

I asked for further test, bec. i dont want to take the medicines i know it is harmful to the body taking 6 to 9 months medications. The Quanteferon TB Gold Test ( i forgot the spelling) it is about $ 270- $ 350 using blood. I'm planning to have that examinations. I got 2 letters from Department of Health about my result to go there and get my medicines. I will take the medication if it is proven i have TB thru Quanteferon TB Gold Test. I'm exposed to the people with TB bec. of my job in the Phils in hospital.

Riza,

We are both in AZ. The reason i asked this question coz i never undergone TST here in Phoenix. I read the I-693 instruction and it clearly stated that if you have your medical less than a year of your AOS application, the only thing needed is the completion of vaccination and then let a Civil surgeon transcribed this information to I-693. I did not bother to talk to any civil surgeon here in AZ. After i completed my vaccination from our family doctor, i sent my data to Dr Arnold in Texas. Marjo2008 also did this process. I confirmed this process from her. I submitted the I-693, no TST done, with my AOS application.

I got approved on the same day i had my interview. Got a white paper from the immigration officer clearly stating that i was approved.

My AOS interview was just last May 2009. I'm clearly under the new procedure for AOS application. I'm confused why you have to undergo TST when this is not needed based on I-693 instruction, unless there is prior findings from SLEC.

Re-doing the TST makes the previous medical useless.

Technically, I should have not done the TST because my medical exam at St. Luke's was covered with the grace period of the new medical policy as posted on the USCIS website (June 30, 2008). When we went to the civil surgeon, the first thing they told us was the TST (I presumed that the government issued them a memorandum about the new policy or else they will not bother asking me about it). We told them that I was entitled to avail the grace period and even showed the X-ray from St. Luke's, but it was not honored. We came to a part where we plan to look for another civil surgeon or send my vaccination record (from St. Luke's) to Texas and have Dr. Arnold transcribe it. But I decided to just go for the one near us and had the TST instead, for the reason that USCIS might give me an RFE because I didn't undergo TST. My medical exam was almost expiring when we filed for AOS although it's still covered with the one month grace period. Medical exam was May 2008 and filed for AOS on April this year.

My friend who I talked about went to the CS few weeks ago. She was told to undergo TST since she just had her medical exam at St. Lukes 3 months ago.
