Hi,

i wasnt sure which form i use to ask this kind of question,

but...

friend of mine also apply AOS based on marriage

she got visited immigration officer yesterday to her home.

she wasnt there and her husband(USC) talked to them.

they asked where she is now

according to her schedule, she should be home during this time

(they knows her school schedule)

she was actually working at that time (illegal)

she didn't submit anything that she is working as illegal

her husband said she is having lunch with her friends

and they left.

of course they asked more questions, but she couldnt explain to me because

she was too freaked out

Anyway, my questions is,

like movie "green card"

do you know or do you hear the immigration ppl visiting home a lot nowadays?

randomly?? Or when they got suspicious?

she havnt get interview letter yet.

now she is too afraid that she leave house

she deicide not to go to work anymore from today.

Dose she needs to submit paper that she is working illegally?

somebody knows about these situation,

please reply!!

Thank you

Tell your friend to stop doing illegal things (like working without permission).

It will only end in tears.

I would be more worried that they know about the "working" and the husband just misrepresented himself by saying she was "out to lunch" (knowing that she is "working").

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

When we got married, we didn't know much about the immigration process but we did think that this was common practice- that USCIS would drop by our house, make sure we were sleeping in the same room, check things out.

I don't know, the fact that they did do this to you- either they still do things like this at random, or they suspect something is up.

If your wife is not working legally, she should not be working. You both should know better that than.

Edit to add- just realized this was about "a friend" Tell your friends to smarten up.

I will tell her do something right and get smater.

first i thought they just come to check that they are not fake

(she also told me the area my friend & hubby live had? has? lots of fake marriage blah blah blah

thats why USCIS come to check my friend..

I dont know why she knows about that though....)

but yes, being illegal working is not good at all.

most cases immigration visit the house only if they receive complain of illegal activity

it can also happen randomly but it is very rare,

just tell ur friend dont do anything illegally otherwise she will be deported,

I've heard about immigration people checking if you really live in the address you put in the application. But most of the time it's anonymously. But I think they do that when they think the case might be suspicious. Anyway, better be safe than sorry :)

Wow I had no idea they could go to your house...does this happen often? I'm worried now because my mom lives in the same neighborhood as me and since she has some health issues i sometimes sleep over at her house. Now i'm worried that they're gonna come one of those day :-S

Her husband's arrest has nothing to do with her eligibility for AOS. It is possible, though, that the govt checked around and learned she had a job.

What we seem to forget when we apply for status change is that our pictures are included. Immigration personnel can easily drop by our home at any given time and view our activities (going to the supermarket, going out together, picking up our mail). Who is to tell that the person we see in our neighbourhood asking questions isn't an immigration field officer. Sometimes people come up to us to have small talk and they ask questions like, how long have we been living in the neighbourhood, if we know of any place for rent, if it's our day-off from work, if we are married etc. We will never know who these people are. Immigration has pictures of us; we do not have a picture of them, lol.

The only reason I don't think they can do any of this, even if they have our pictures, is simply because they don't have the necessary funds to be sending immigration officers to every single place where an AOS has been requested. If anything i would think they check only the necessary cases, maybe where they see red flags? Don't you guys agree?
