Culture is funny.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Do any dreams count, or do they have to be part of a ceremony? I understand that many significant dreams occur when believers (?) perform certain rites and rituals. You are a christian as well, no? That's interesting that both beliefs systems can be held concurrently.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Historically, that possibly saved the Iroquois from extinction. Their belief system was the closest a Native American civilization had come to the complex theology of Christianity say for just a few differences. Both have a lot on common, including Judaism, ...such as having a council of qualified individuals, the belief in seasonal periods, feasts and festivals. etc.,....

Dreams always count, and it is advised one wear glasses so one can see their dreams better. :P

Yes, I can imagine that not being able to believe in both systems would have had a devastating effect on some native American cultures/civilizations.

My son has very interesting dreams - I am often a very heroic figure in them ;)

Judaism has actually had highly varied practices over time. The Judaism of the pre-Temple and First Temple era, highly focused on sacrifices and the Priestly classes (Kohanim, Leviim), Judges and Prophets differs radically from that of the inter-temple era (Babylonian exile) during which the Talmud was largely compiled, and then different again from the Second temple era, the leadership of the Rabbinate and Sanhedrin.

Obama is the duly-elected secular President of a secular nation. His faith, or lack of that faith has no bearing on his Presidency unless he were to choose to make it so.

I don't foresee a time when an atheist will be elected president of the USA. In fact, I don't foresee a time when anyone who professes to hold a different faith to christianity will get elected come to that. This should not be an issue, but of course, it is.

I would prefer someone to hold ethical high standards personally, religion not important, but ethics most certainly is.

I don't think this country will ever elect a black man for president. . . stratch that.

Or a woman . . . does Hillary count?

Or a Jew . . . Joe Lieberman didn't count as a VP candidate I guess.

Being a black christian is nothing compared to being an atheist, muslim or even yes, a jew. The US is not ready for such leaps of 'faith'.

However, the second point I made is far more interesting than the first ;)

Certainly not considering how many deeply religious people there are in this country, and how deeply involved the religious establishment is in our politics.

I do know one guy (a former Brit) who now lives in Texas - told me that he and his wife quit their local church last year because the preacher was essentially shilling for McCain from the pulpit and telling people to vote republican in his sermons.
