Hi folks,

I have been here in the US for 6 months now. I got my EAD yesterday in the Mail, I was just wondering how people found it working in a new Country, Especially after not been allowed to work for such a long time? I am really nervous about looking for work. I don't have a great Education and we don't Graduate in U.K. I am just looking for some re-assurance i guess and any help would be appreciated.

12/30/2005 Arrived in the USA (Finally made it

02/17/2006 received my social security number

03/10/2006 We Got Married!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

04/19/2006 Sent in AOS & EAD papers

04/27/2006 Touched for AOS & EAD

05/11/2006 Biometrics for AOS & EAD[/color]

06/07/2006 Received AOS appointment letter (july 14th 06)

07/07/2006 Recieved EAD

07/14/06 AOS APPROVED!!!!!!!!!!!!! All in less than 3 months (that's unbeleivable)

4/21/08 Filed I-751

4/26/08 Check cashed

4/28/08 NOA received

5/16/08 Attended Biometrics

9/12/08 Green Card arrived in mail :-)

Hi Liam,

I assume you mean not graduating from high school in the UK? We do however take exams, which is the equivalent of the high school graduation.

If you're worried about your education, why not take the chance to study over here? You will have to check with your state, but I know a lot of states will allow you to study at a very reduced rate once you have been resident for 6 months or more. It is certainly something to consider for your long term future.

Having said that, there are plenty of people out there working without any further education. I think the best thing is to jump in and find out what's around for you. Concentrate more on your skills and experience on your resume. I'm sure there are plenty of resume experts here on VJ who will have more suggestions.

What kind of work do you think you'll be interested in?
