change of name on my passport

hi all,

i was super organised and changed my passport to my married name. it arrived this week.

i am a june filer, and i-130 NOA1 has come back to me, but i am still waiting on NOA2.

do i need to contact USCIS to give them my new passport number and a copy of it?

will i have any issues considering the first lot of forms for the i-130 were filled out with my old passport details (i still have the actual passport at home and its in my maiden name, but wanted to update to my married name of course)

i am wondering also, when NVC and embassy time comes, should i include copies of the original passport in my maiden name AND the new current passport in my married name, just so they know what is going on?

i am sure they will figure it out and it happens often, but just want to make sure i do the right thing!

I changed my passport into my married name just after we got our NOA-2. Although it is not necessary, you can submit the old passort info with the new one if you like. However, I did not and it was not an issue for me. I brought both passports to the interview just in case but it was fine.

what doc.s do you need in order to change your cdn passport into your married name?

You need government issued ID in your married name (health card, licence, SIN card) in order to have your passport changed. You need to apply for a new passport, not a renewal. I used my marriage licence to change my driver's licence into my married name, then used the new driver's licence to change my passport.

It is a pain in the keister!

I had mine done shortly before the interview (I had my old one with my maiden name for the medical) and it was fine, my visa was issued in the name in my passport. You don't HAVE to change it, it all depends on your prefernces.

It only really matters at the interview that your passport has a validity of 6+ months. The name in the passport throughout this process is unimportant as USCIS knows it takes time for women to change their name in all their documents. I wanted my GC in my married name, which is why I changed passport.
