*please move if in wrong spot* (I searched and couldn't find anything.)

So, I braced myself to go to the SSN office to remove restrictions (got the same 'lady' didn't want to give me a SSN in the first place). At first she wasn't going to do anything without my passport. I explained my passport has nothing to do with my GC at this time (K1 visa, now have 10yr GC).

She then called her squinty supervisor over and they were talking and so I asked what the problem was. They said that my name on my SSN/GC/DL (read: every ID I have) is different from what they have on the SAVE system (whatever that is). It's correct on the SSN system, just not this SAVE system. They said I was suspicious because of this and were going to keep my GC and send it in. I made them give my GC back and asked them who to call about this and they said immigration. I couldn't find anything there about what to do in this case. FWIW, this other system has my first name spelled Kimberly instead of Kimberley.

Long/short - who to contact about this?

cheers.

That would be USCIS - CBP/DHS at the POE where you entered messed things up. You may want to give them a call and see if they can assist. Which POE did you use?

Try an INFOPASS appointment with USCIS to correct this.

I crossed at Bluewater/Port Huron, MI. But if they did mess it up there, I would think the I94 in my passport would be incorrect, and it is not.

Did they say suspicious or suspect? Suspect is the status the application is put in when they need to verify your status with immigration, so that's no big deal. My main concern would be if what you say is correct is that they kept your I-551 (Green Card). They are only supposed to make a photo copy of it and give it back to you. The other thing is if all this is over your name having an "E"missing, then they don't know what they are doing, since there is a one letter tolerance for name misspellings between the immigration document and SAVE.

What SSA office was this?

This section of POMS is no longer on the SSA Web site, but the info is still valid.

RM 00203.735 Requesting Online (Primary) Verification By SAVE:

http://web.archive.org/web/20051002025945/.../lnx/0100203735

E. PROCEDURE—ONLINE SAVE QUERY RESPONSE INFORMATION DOES NOT AGREE WITH IMMIGRATION DOCUMENT

1. Name

a. One Letter of the Name on the SAVE Query Response Differs from the Name on the Document

In enumeration situations, consider the name shown on the SAVE query response to agree with the name on the immigration document when

-- The ONLY discrepancy between the name shown on the SAVE query response and the name on the immigration document is a single letter that is different; AND

-- The person’s name that is shown on all other documents (e.g., foreign passport, visa, DS-2019, I-20) presented, agrees with the name as shown on the immigration document presented.

The single letter discrepancy may be in either the first or last name. If there is a single letter discrepancy in both the first and last name (for example, Form I-94, the foreign passport, and the U.S. visa in the foreign passport all show the applicant’s name as “Gabriel Calic,” but the SAVE query response shows the name as “Garriel Calix”), the tolerance does not apply because two letters differ.

EXAMPLE 1: The Form I-94, the foreign passport, and visa in the foreign passport all show the applicant’s first name as “Gabriel.” However, the SAVE query response shows the first name as “Garriel.” Since there is a single letter discrepancy (the “b” appears on the SAVE query response as “r”) and all the immigration documents (e.g., passport, visa, and I-94) show the first name as “Gabriel,” consider that the SAVE query response confirms the name information shown on the immigration document.

RM 00202.307 Acknowledgement for Form SS-5

https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0100202307

B. Procedure

3. Entering Application into the SS-5 Assistant/MES

The SS-5 Assistant automatically codes the SS-5 application as “suspect” when documents or status must be verified and prints an acknowledgment letter when requested.

As I said no big deal, If they coded it "fraudulent" this would be something to worry about.

I think they did say suspect. I had already verified all sorts of information including mom's maiden name, dad's name etc. This person isn't very helpful at all. They did give me my card back, but didn't take a copy. I left after they told me I had to contact immigration myself, that there wasn't anything they could do. I probably should have gotten more information from them, but I was so angry I left.

I've found an email to contact the SAVE people, so hopefully they are helpful, but I am keeping this wonderful information you have provided in case they are not.

Then I think I'll go to the next town over to their office and give it a go. There is only one lady that works the counter in our town and I've met several people that have formed the same opinion I have about her.

You can only go to another SSA office if they didn't enter your application into the system. Did they give you a reference number, i.e. 09XXXXXXXXX? If you have a pending application you can't submit another until that one has been cleared or deleted.

That`s weird. I had the same problem at the Secretary of State. They said USCIS messed up while entering my name in their system and now it`s misspelled and basically they (at the Sec. of State) couldn`t correct it. But ALL my documents (my passport, my visa, I-94, SS card, EAD, GC) have the RIGHT name on them... I was lucky the person helping me WAS helpful. She made copies of every document I had (with the right name) and attached them to my application. So I got my state ID with the correct name on it.
