I just moved from Canada where I taught in the public school system for the past 10 years. I'm trying to get the Indiana teaching licence and then hopefully get a job. Anyone here has tried to do this or is in the process of getting a teaching job? I would like to know your experience.

The Lord is my strength and my shield,

My heart trusted in Him and I am helped,

therefore my heart greatly rejoices,

and with my song I will praise Him.

I would suggest you apply at a school district to be a substitute teacher so you can work whilst getting your Indiana license.

Also, most private schools don't require a teaching cert to begin as long as you have either an MA or a license in another area. Many times you will be hired with the condition of enrolling in a cert program or renewing license in the area within a year of hire.

Good luck!

Jundp, thanks for your reply. That sounds really good!

I have a friend that was a teacher in Syria and moved to Louisiana. She was told that she needed to pass the Praxis inorder to teach here.

I have included the telephone number and website for the Indiana School board in the email. They can answer all your questions about becoming a Highly Qualified Teacher and certification in Indiana.

Indiana also has something called an emergency permit. You might want to ask them about that as well.

Questions: For more information, visit the Highly Qualified Teacher web site at

www.doe.state.in.us/hqt.

Submit questions to Jennifer Campbell at hqt@doe.state.in.us or call 317-233-3469.

Good luck!

Waiting.....Waiting....waiting....waiting....and more waiting..........
