How far ahead of time can one get the ball rolling on DCF?

Hi!

Can I get start the process on DCF now, even though my wife and I don't plan on returning to the US until 2011? And since I don't know if my wife's green card has been or ever will be revoked (I'm assuming it will be), can we still apply for this?

Once issued, the CR/IR1 visa that you'd be applying for needs to be activated within 6 months, although you can apply for an extention when the 6 months start running out.

Personally, I'd wait until around 8-10 months before you plan to move. DCF timescales differ from country to country but the average (IIRC from what I read when investigating my own case) is 4-6 months, so that would allow enough time to put the visa through with a few months spare at the end
