packet 3 questions

hello all...just a few questions for you about the forms in packet 3.

+as far as i know, my fiancee was given ds-156k.

it says it is to be used with for ds-156- which was NOT included in the packet.

does that sound right? where is ds-156?

+on ds-156k it asks for "evidence of engagement". what sort of evidence are they looking for? a signed statement? something else?

+it also asks for "evidence of support". do they want the affidavit of support? or something else?

+on the front of the checklist is the MTL number. the consulate has made it clear they they want the forms from packet 3 and the checklist immediately, but the doctor doing the medical exam also wants proof that they sent packet 3. will they take a photocopy?

thanks in advance, guys!

The proof for the doctor will be the first page where they say they are pleased to inform you that the consulate can now begin processing your visa. The checklist and DS-230 need to be sent back, he will also need to do the DS-160 online, and take a copy of the DS-160 application and the confirmation page. The DS-156k is the declaration that everything you have said is true, it goes with the DS-160 and the DS-156, which even though they dont ask for in P3, they do ask for in P4 (silly montreal), he can download it online from the department of state website and fill it out so he has it ready for the interview. The evidence of engagement is just another letter of intent with a date closer to your interview saying you still want to marry him . For now though, all he has to do is check everything on the list (even if he doesnt have it all in hand yet, doesnt matter as the interviews are a few months behind) and send that with a DS-230 part 1 completed. Hope this helps :D

Opps forgot to add the support thing...they want (for the interview) the I-134 from you, with tax transcripts, letter from your employer, or bank info...co-sponsor info if needed. Basically the P3 is a "what you need to bring to the interview" list

that was incredibly helpful! thank you so much!

just to reiterate then. the only things that need to be sent RIGHT NOW are the online ds-160 (which we've already completed), the checklist, the ds-230

i'm just confused because in the only form we got (ds-156k) it asks for birth certificate, criminal record, evidence of engagement and affidavit of support. but all that comes at the interview? i just want to make certain every last thing is correct!

thanks again!

Just the DS-230 and checklist. To be taken to the interview are the DS-160 confirmation and application, DS-156, DS-156k, his birth certificate and copies, evidence of support, letter of intent, police check, 2 passport photos (3 are needed as well for the medical), his medical results, any divorce/death certs and anything related to kids, if applicable.

I saw in another thread that you delayed sending things back. Did you hear from Montreal that you can still proceed now with everything?

I have nothing to add, but just remembered that you were unsure if you were going to have to start this process all over again! Best of luck!

Just went back to that other thread I was referencing and found out that Montreal said you're still good to go! Great news! (F)

I would also like to add something to this list. Bringing to the interview everything listed, but also proof of relationship. I don't know how Montreal handles things, but the one in Vancouver asked me and I had a stack of pictures, emails, chat logs, etc. I had lots of evidence of engagement and up coming wedding. Pictures of my dress, bridesmaids dresses, bridal registries etc. Anything to do with the wedding. I really don't know if this makes a difference or not...but set a date. She asked me when do we plan on getting married and I was able to speak in confidence, Sept. 19th. In fact I think confidence must have been strong with me because the whole process was painless. And although she took the pictures, glanced at the first one and handed them back, I really believe it was my being that prepared that she had no problem approving the visa. She spoke to me for about 5 minutes only. Each consular is different, so it's good to be prepared. I also had copies of the original packet we sent in but she didn't need it. It was kinda neat to stand there and see on her side a picture of Tim on our information.

yeah im reading over and over that the DS-156K is still required

Montreal sent me a very old outdated DS-230. I printed off extra copies from the web and noticed the version difference (really only that they ask for my email address and rearrange the boxes a bit) .. so i sent in the newer version.

this forum is SO DARN AWESOME i can't even say.. and i only found it this past week! I'm relieved to see that so far i've done everything i need to properly. It seems relatively painless, except for the waiting and being apart. i know im preaching to the choir there..

as long as you send/sent what the checklist tells you to send (the DS-230 and the checklist), you're fine.. i'm still collecting documents from the checklist. birth certificate arrived today. yay!

when i got my packet 3 from montreal - ALL the forms were outdated lol I didnt even get a DS-156k.

I printed out all the new ones filled them out signed them sent back the apropriate ones.

I filled out the entire DS-230 for the new forms but only sent back part 1 and kept part 2 in duplicate just incase they ask for it at the interview or I get some surprise.

Just incase I sent an extra copy of the DS-160 confirmation page but they dont ask for that.

When I got my Packet 4 - there was no interview date or time on the letter, thankfully they had emailed me the date and time earlier in an email, when I emailed them to see if it was ok that my letter didnt have it and I had a printed copy of the email they havent responded to my email lol so I just hope it will do.

Montreal is not very organized it seems or prepared when it comes to packets 3 and 4 lol. Just download any forms you didnt get and if your worried get the updated versions of the ones you have if they arent up-to-date already. They had no problem with my packet 3 and the new forms and seems they processed them pretty quickly.
