Hello

I am curious to know when I can start to apply for my citizenship.

I am from Europe, got married to an US Citizen, got my green card ( 10yr ) and stepped foot in the US in the beginning of October 2006, this October will be my 3 year mark.

I have been told that I could apply 3 months prior to my 3 yr mark, but I am not sure, could anyone pls fill me in about this?

How long does this procedure take?

Thank you for your help.

You need to look at the PR date on your Green Card. Take that date and add 3 years. Now you can apply up to 90 days before that date. Note that it is not 3 months, it is 90 days. There is a difference and applying 3 months will cause it to be rejected. Always safe to apply 85 days or less.

The process is different for everyone, there is no standard time line. Some a few months, others years. So plan for it to be a few months at the least...
