Hi, everyone. This is only my second post here. People were very helpful with my first post, so I hope there will be some people who can help me out this time too. First let me begin by saying that our K-1 application was approved by Vermont on 07/07/06.

Now for the sad news of my situation. My father has had cancer for a while now and his situation is getting worse. From what I understand, It will still be several months until my finace has her interview and can come to the US. I'm worried that my father may not survive that long to meet her and see our wedding. I was wondering if there is any way that I could get the remainder of the process somehow shortened so that my fiance could arrive here sooner and hopefully be able to meet my father. Do you think writing my Congressman could help? Has anyone here ever had the K-1 process expedited due to a situation like mine or for anyother situation for that matter? I could supply the embassy or whoever with my father's medical records if need be. My mother passed away last year and never had the chance to meet the love of my life. Ireally hope my father gets the chance to at least meet her and spend some time with her.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

the case of your father is a strong evidence for the request you just need to send your fiancee the medical certificate of your father and that way she can send it along with the request form. hope this helps.good luck

here is additional info about the early request instruction..

Hi! I'm so sorry for your dad! (F) Good luck getting through this difficult time (L)

In regard to your question, though they rarely expedite cases on the USCIS end (i.e. giving a faster approval), it probably is possible to get a quicker interview date if you provide medical evidence of your dad's illness. I *think* the Naples consulate may have bumped up my fiance's interview date because I explained that my fiance' wouldn't have anywhere to live in Italy after mid-July. So, they gave him a date in early July (this Tuesday, in fact). I wasn't expecting them to be willing/able to do anything to help, but like magic we got a before-mid-July date.

Again, I'm very sorry for your dad's illness! Good luck with everything. I know it must be so hard to be losing your dad AND have to be so far away from your fiancee as well. (F)

Am sorry but I dont see where the emergency is vis a vis the K-1 visa, because your fiancee can get a visitors visa to come and see her future father in law and return back to her country to await the K-1 visa processing.

You seem to be working under the assumption that she can only enter the US ona K-1 visa, maybe you need to consider other visas for her to come and go back, just in case your expedite request is turned down.

Unlikely to get a Visitors Visa in PI.

Asante: he's in the Philippines, she doesn't have a visa already, that's not going to be an easy feat. Not to mention the wait times alone for the interview. Tourist visas are very hard to get, especially in certain places. This is probably not an option.

OP: I'm so sorry for your situation. I am confident that you will be able to expedite this process, and get all the help you can to get through the bureaucracy (re: your idea of contacting congressmen).

Good luck.

Those requests are for non-immigrant visa interviews in the non-immigrant visa section. The K visas are processed by the immigrant visa section.

There is a list of conditions for expediting petitions. This situation is not on that list.

I am sorry for your situation as well, as I was in this same scenario a few months ago. Our K-1 was not expedited nor sped through the system either. My mom died from breast cancer before my fiancé (now my husband) was approved. I hope you and your fiancé find a solution. Have you thought of making a video for her to see...maybe if she's able to have one made of her there for your dad to see? Just a thought.... (F)
