Are you talking about changing your name after you get married?

Everyone's K-1 Visa is in their maiden name and then when they get married, they can change their name to their husband's surname or they can keep their maiden name, whichever you prefer.

You should carry your certified marriage certificate with you at all times to show why your name on your passport/K-1 Visa is different from your married name.

You can have your spouse's surname added to your passport after you marry for a fee of $12.

This is advisable for when you do AOS.

You can apply for your updated passport from the States.

The form you need to download is pptc140.pdf from the ppt.gc.ca site.

Hope that helps and good luck!!

I don't see it as necessary for AOS. Probably good to do if you plan to travel outside of US once you get married. I never added my spouse's surname to my passport after we got married and had no issues with AOS.

Marriage certificate is proof of your name change. I probably would have added my husband's surname if my pasport wasn't so close to expiring. I'm in the process of renewing now. More paperwork!! Yay! It never ends!

it is advisable to update your name change on your passport if you plan on travelling outside the US or Canada. Any travel documents have to all have the same name on them, or difficulties could arise at immigration points, even with a copy of your marriage certificate.

I had my married name "added" to my passport at the time, and then when that one expired, I got a new one with my new married name. Its far less hassle that way, if you do plan to take your husbands name.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!
