This is as close as I can find to the Beaufort Sea, NW Canada in January 2009, looks pretty cold to me down there, but comparing August photos in 2001 and 2009? Crazy, wind patterns make a huge difference.

No media coverage = no public dialog.

Have you been living a cave? There was plenty of media coverage about polar ice long before these photos were released.

Furthermore, the notion that there were no satellite photos of the Arctic released BO (Before Obama) is laughably wrong.

RECENT WARMING OF ARCTIC MAY AFFECT WORLDWIDE CLIMATE

No matter. Obama told us he'd "heal the oceans" so there's little worry.

You can't kill a story when you aren't in sole possession of the all of the relevant facts, but you can certainly sideline it by ensuring that its kept at a comfortable distance.

Just checking... you know August is summer in the northern hemisphere while January is winter right? :P

Well it IS the Bush administration's opposition to relevant science on an across the board basis. No huge surprise even if its classified information or media suppression.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Did he really say that he'd heal the oceans? Neat.

He made some statement about healing the earth, I think - but who honestly takes political rhetoric like that seriously?

Its like the whole change #######. Seems to me that fewer people here actually believe that than want to believe that others take it seriously.

Oh, I had selectivitis in my knee once. It only hurt whenever someone asked me to help them move.

I should stress I have no idea if that's what happened hear, but I can certainly are merit in the idea that you could suppress the issue by ensuring that it is kept as an oblique theoretical issue that doesn't directly impact peoples lives.

Something that happens "somewhere else" and that people shouldn't concern themselves about it.

Tends to be the case with self-suppression too. Its hotter in Argentina now, so I don't need to give a hoot.

As HAL has pointed out, climate and weather are two different things. Those two pictures were chosen just to prop up a point of view. So here is my pictures to prop up my view. These are NASA photos of the Beaufort Sea taken one year apart. According to these pics the ice is getting thicker!
