A# For kids Changed on 485 NOA?

The mailman brought a surprise today: Interview NOA's for the kids but not for Bella. The appointment is for August 24th, at 2 different times. There have been no emails or touches regarding this.

I assume Bella's interview NOA is in the mail, but the 2 different times for the kids' appointments concerns me a little. I assumed that they kept the applications together and the interview appointment would be the same for all three. I hope they did not somehow separate the kids' applications from Bella's.

I also just noticed that on the I-485 NOA's for the kids, the A# has been changed to a new number. On the I-131 & I-765 NOA's for the kids the A# remained the original # (which is the number that is on their I-94's and is the same as Bella's #). This seems strange although it did not cause any problems at biometrics. Can someone with kids please check their NOA's and see if the A# for your child was also changed on the I-485 NOA?

Thanks!

Bill

With a little help from a fellow June filer I answered my own question. :)

Bill, I believe when you call the 1-800 number one of the voice prompts asks you, and I quote as much as I remember:

"if you received a notice for some but not all applications filed, and believe some of the applications you filed together were separated, press X"

Excellent tip! After you mentioned it, I also remembered hearing that option. I had a hard time finding it again since it comes after you enter the receipt # and they tell you the status as of a month ago and then tell you they have no other information so don't bother trying to find out anything else. If one does not hang up in disgust at that point and continues to listen they eventually offer option 3 if you think your cases have been separated. Much to my surprise option 3 actually took me to a very nice human who passed me on to another human (not quite so nice) who was not much help and insisted on speaking to Bella. Since human #2 does not speak Spanish we moved on to bilingual human #3 who was also nice and provided the following info:

  1. The different interview times for the kids is "normal" since they have to allocate a certain amount of time for each applicant to keep from overbooking an officer's schedule for the day.
  2. Bella's appointment letter is probably just delayed in the mail and she doubts very seriously (but could not confirm) that the applications have been separated.
  3. It is normal that the kids have been assigned new A#'s since three people can't go through life with the same number. Apparently K2's enter the country using the K1's A# but eventually they must get their own. No explanation why the change was made on the 485 NOA1's and not the 131's & 765's.

In addition, I took advantage of the opportunity and asked if the way I filled out the name on Bella's application (using part of her maiden last name as her new middle name) was going to cause a problem. Unlike the clerk at the biometrics, she thought it would be no problem at all. And if it was, that was something that could be discussed during the interview and adjustments made if necessary on the spot without any delays.

So..... after all the confusion and concern things turned out great and hopefully they will all be approved for GC's in less than a month!
