Seems more like a question for the bc_new.gif K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures section, but most of us were there after the applications for AOS were sent and you received the NOA that meant you are here legally, but can't really do much like work and certainly not travel abroad with an expired visa. My son wanted to take my then 14 year daughter on a trip with his family to Washington DC. The problem we ran into, is that she required an ID to broad the airline. So I took her to our DMV with her passort with a photo ID and her immigration NOA to get her a photo ID.

But you don't even mention about traveling via the airlines, we did travel by car quite a bit to show the USA to my new wife and daughter, wife helped drive as out state and my insurance company recognized her international drivers's license, but she couldn't get that until she got her EAD card and SS card. We did carry their NOA with us just in case, but never were asked by anyone to see it.

I have done by my biometrics and just waiting for the rest. Can I travel around america with an expired visa while waiting for EAD and GC??

Yep! Be sure and take your NOA1 with you.

K1 denied, K3/K4, CR-1/CR-2, AOS, ROC, Adoption, US citizenship and dual citizenship

That was Twilight Zone #1, wife and daughter were here legally, but the only thing they could do legally was to spend money, if my wife did not have her international drivers' license, she couldn't drive. We did apply for the I-765 EAD card, but it was a very long wait as a fill in for the conditional green card, debated on sending another 305 bucks for the I-131, but didn't, she just got here and really didn't want to return. But you just didn't know how long it would take. She filled in her time by doing volunteer work, wouldn't even accept a lunch invitation as that could construed as payment, paid for her own lunch. Daughter could go to school however with her NOA, even though a lot of illegals were attending school. But she was legal.

Twilight Zone #2 was that long wait when their conditional green cards expired with that one year extension notice, in legal matters, was asked, what in the hell is an extension notice, show me your valid green card.

Twilight Zone #3 was that time between her N-400 and the oath ceremony date, felt we better not go anywhere until that oath letter came in, came up with the phrase, camping out next to the mailbox.

Twilight Zone #4 was waiting for her US passport to come, while before her oath ceremony, she was free to travel, lost that freedom when she received her USC certificate.

Each zone required filling out form/s with ambigous nebulous questions, sending in a pile of money, and waiting, seemingly forever, and hoping you didn't forget to type in a N/A where your form could be denied and they keep your money. And praying they wouldn't misplace your applications, they did twice, request evidence they never asked for, and dealing with very authorative people that didn't know nothing.

We had to make 18 very long trips either directly to our local field offices or to other USCIS related business, some during very inclimate climate conditions, and put at least 78,000 miles on our vehicles for the process. With the USCIS have to be there at least one minute early or can be rejected, only to wait in their waiting room, sometimes for hours. Wouldn't dare use the restrooms or take a coffee break, the second you leave is when they will call you. Very long days.

Then it's all over.

One commonality of the USCIS, is they want to talk to the applicant forgetting the reason why they are here is that a sponsoring USC singing the I-864, taking full responsibility, and paying all of the USCIS fees. Developed the saying, HEY, THIS IS MY FAMILY we are talking about and I am the head of the household. Do I least have a say in this matter? Immigration is a family matter, but the first thing they want to do, is to split up the family!

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

To answer the OP's question: Keep ALL of your most up-to-date immigration paperwork with you at all times (marriage certificate, NOA1, any official letter that indicates that you are proceeding through the lawful process). And stay far away from anyplace where there could be a CBP (Customs & Border Protection) inland checkpoint! Do not travel within 50 (or even 100) miles of either border!

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
