I was married in Dakar Feb 2008. I filled the I-130 papers back in April 2008 for my husband and was approved. Got the letter for my husbands interview which took place Jun 11, 2009. My husband was asked some questions then was told they needed more information and they would contact him at another time. Two week slater I emailed them and asked what they needed and how long the process would take. I was advised that our case was in the eligibility review unit and they would contact me when they could move forward. Two weeks later I emailed them again and was advised the case was still in administrative processing and they could not tell me how long this process could take because each case was different. Can anyone advise me as to what they are looking for and how long this proces may take? Has anyone else had this same issue wit the embassy in dakar. We really want to fully start our lives together and we are just in limbo and in the dark now not knowing what is happening, what is next and when this wil be over. Can anyone help with this matter?

We did not have to go through AP, but I have read a lot of posts from those who have and it can be a two week process or take more than a year depending on the reason. There may have been something in your case that was a "red flag" to the CO. Sometimes it is additional background checks, especially in some Muslim countries. It could also be because they suspect the marriage is only for immigration purposes. Any of those things could be a reason for AP. I am pretty sure there are other reasons as well. No one can tell you when this will be over, but many visajourney members have made it through this process successfully, so keep faith with your husband, pray (alot), and just let the process run its course. This is one of those tests that will make your marriage stronger if you will let it. Best wishes and God bless.

Hi, Senegal.

I haven't been to the interview side of the process yet, but from what I've heard, Dakar does tend to put a lot cases in Administrative Processing (AP). I'm not sure the average length of time that you'll have to wait or anything like that. I'm still new on this site, so I can't offer any great information, but I wanted to at least respond to your AP question and bump the thread up. I'd look up Administrative Processing on the VJ search bar and check. You should also stop by the MENA forum (Middle East and North Africa) because I think they have a thread pinned for Administrative Processing.

Good luck!

I think you're referring to a Stokes interview, which usually only occurs at the adjustment of status stage (from K-1/K-3 visas). I've never heard of it happening at the embassy level. It's when the husband and wife are put in separate rooms and questioned individually to see if the answers match up.
