I have been interested in this for some time now. Coming from the UK where there is only 11% of water fluoridation, I was surprised to discover how widespread it is here in the US. It first caught my eye when I was diagnosed with thyroid disease about 18 months ago and have done much reading since.

While there are many conspiracy theories surrounding water fluoridation, I have come my own conclusion that I don't think any government has the right to medicate the public water supply, forcing those of us who do not wish to consume more fluoride that we naturally acquire, to buy bottled water.

My husband thinks I'm kookie, but I am interested to hear other peoples views on it....if indeed anyone has any strong feelings either way :D

Here are two opposing points of view....

the gov't is giving the population mind numbing drugs ...

...Not yet, anyway.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I don't have the professional training to have an opinion on this. I do, however, know enough to know that reading websites without the requisite academic background is no substitute for actual scientific knowledge.

I agree. Which is why the only conclusion I have made so far is the one I stated....that I don't believe government should add medication to the water supply for the good of my teeth....I have perfect teeth :D see

Ain't working, people are still getting a lot of cavities.

But maybe someone, somewhere, didn't get a cavity, so that makes the entire program worth it. Does this kind of thinking sound like our government?

Fluoride is a mineral, and in now way classified as a medication. While fluoride can reduce a significant amount of cavities, it can not reduce ALL cavities. In short there are many ways a person can get cavities, poor dental hygenine, too much sugar in their diet without adequate hygiene, and lack of fluoridation.

I don't think your average person is aware of the consequences of fluoridation or non-flouridation. I mean while we're at it, lets de-iodonize salt or remove folic acid from grains.

Anyway, I just wanted to give my opinion and another point of view. I'm glad you found out about your thyroid condition Welshcookie and I understand why its an important issue to you.

I don't think it's good or bad, really. I buy toothpaste with fluoride simply because it's better for my teeth. Water with flouride is similar. But like toothpaste, you have the option of acquiring water without fluoride. Sure, maybe that costs, but considering all the other ####### that exists in tap water, I'd say fluoride is the least of your problems.

I'd recommend getting a water filter. I don't know if that necessarily filters out fluoride, but it'll certainly help for all other unwanted stuff.
