that is the same situation i'm in now. for some reason the FIL seems scared to write up anything for us. i offered to find one print it out etc. and now he keeps saying he'll give us 500 towards rent of our own..so now i kinda have no idea what is going on. :(

I know for domicile they wanted to see a somewhat "legal" real looking lease. not sure about AOS though. i mean lots of couples live with the In laws for the first bit.

I made something up.

We don't even pay rent, so I just made some agreement statement about our living arrangements. I was looking at using a rental agreement, but since we don't pay... seemed like overkill.

Back when I was doing the K-1 initial paperwork (or was it for Montreal? I forget), I got some generic lease from Google and adjusted it for our needs. Had my parents and me sign it, and there you go, there's your lease. You might find companies trying to sell their generic forms first, but keep looking and you'll find some unencumbered ones.

You can find generic sample lease agreements for every state pretty easily. I would suggest using that instead of a letter. Even though, it is your spouses parents, I think that something that at least looks professional would be better.

We didn't even submit a copy of our lease as I signed it before we got married and it was only in our name.

I don't know why, but I simply cannot get any of our utility companies to put the accounts in both of our names. It's really aggrivating seeing as the standard of evidence for RoC is much higher i've been told.

Oh, I came across dozens of sample lease letters, and came to the conclusion that I really didn't feel right fabricating something with terms, etc, when we don't put anything like that to practice. I also think my MIL would have a problem signing something that wasn't legit.

Honestly, I just wanted proof of reasoning as to why we didn't have a lease or other document to show. Going by the reasoning that they put a lot of worth into the very simplistic letter of intent for the K1 petition, I didn't think this was too awful.

You don't have to fabricate things, just fill in the areas that are pertinent to you. But if you don't feel comfortable with that, then go with your letter from your MIL.

I think a letter from your MIL sounds fine Sam. They're just looking for proof your relationship is legit, not for a specific lease document.

We lived with my in-laws too and would've just had a letter written up had we needed it.

Now that we have a lease, we didn't even bother to put my name on it! It was $100 more to apply and then they would've checked my credit (which we all know would've been 0) so we didn't bother. I can't even be added. I'm hoping that once we need to remove conditions we'll have a house but if not, I plan to just show them my pay stubs and all of my mail and explain that I couldn't be added because of my credit. I'm really not that worried.

Removing Conditions

Sent package to VSC - 8/12/11

NOA1 - 8/16/11

Biometrics - 9/14/11

Yeah, we've had the same problem. I'm not too worried about ROC right now, but no company will let us add a second person to the bills, which is a little weird.
