I emailed them on Tuesday, and they just called me today - they are willing to wait as long as it takes for me to have my greencard! YAY!

That's good news, Miranda&John. By the way, how did you bring up your "immigration status" with your employer? I have a job interview coming up in a couple of weeks and am wondering how I should mention the fact that I am waiting on my EAD/AOS.

That's good news, Miranda&John. By the way, how did you bring up your "immigration status" with your employer? I have a job interview coming up in a couple of weeks and am wondering how I should mention the fact that I am waiting on my EAD/AOS.

Well, my case was a little special because:

a) I was here on an internship visa, and my resume clearly stated "intern", although I didn't mention anything about the immigration process (they didn't ask even though almost all of my work experience is from Canada). During the interview I (very briefly) mentioned that my internship was ending because I'm expecting my work authorization and green card (when talking about another subject). They didn't ask me anything more about it, and I think it was because...

b) I looked it up, and this particular employer (a university) has an actual HR policy of NOT discriminating against those who do not yet have work authorization, but have applied for a job, granted that they will be able to show proof of authorization on the first day of work.

If I were you, I'd do exactly what I did - if the employer doesn't bring it up, mention it in passing near the end of the interview. I mean, if you are planning to have your green card BEFORE you begin work, then it's really none of their business. As long as you bring it (or your EAD) on the first day of work to fill out the I-9 then you are fine. But if you think there is a chance that it could be postponed (like in my case), it's worth the chance of throwing it out there in the interview, or else they might think you were trying to lead them on or be dishonest with them.

I was anxiously hoping that my AP would be approved prior to my Green Card so that I could take off home for a week before then.

Now, hubby and I discussed it and are planning on taking a two-week jaunt up there to visit both of our families once I have my GC in hand... so I guess it doesn't matter if my other apps are approved or not.

Of course, saying that, they probably will be now... haha.

Hello Everyone,

Please I need your advices! It will be really appreciated!

We got married on March 24th.

I filed for AOS, AP, EAD on March 31st...but I have a problem with SSA because the CPB Officer screw my I-94 up...he put on it "work NOT authorized" so I can get a SSN....We call to DHS, they said we would have to wait 6 weeks before someone could take care of that...we live too far from the boarder to get it fix there... :bonk:

DHS told us to get a tax number but same thing 4 or 6 weeks waiting time...so I can`t be put on health insurance, car insurance, no joint account with my husbands,...

I found a car and I want to buy it...so my husband could buy it on his name...I have no problem with it but my concerns is that I can`t build any good credit with car insurance... :crying:

I was wondering if we could put the car on both names and he could insured it until I get my SSN? or is it better that I wait to buy the car when I get my SSN?

In Quebec, I'm going to give my Mazda to my daughter so she won`t have to pay any taxes...

Thanks a lot for your help

My thought would be going IN to Canada, show your passport, and on the way back to the US show your green card.

Here's my understanding of it, but don't quote me. Go to your local deferred inspection site (you don't have to go back to the border). Locations are here: http://www.cbp.gov/linkhandler/cgov/toolbox/contacts/deferred_inspection/deferred_inspection_sites.ctt/deferred_inspection_sites.pdf They should be able to 'correct' your i-94, but as you know, you really AREN'T eligible to work as a K-1, so they didn't entirely make a mistake, they just made it harder to get an SSN from the sounds of it. Have you gone to a SSA office and tried anyway? Our initial SSNs come with the stamp that we can't work without DHS Authorization anyways. I'd give it a shot, and make sure to print off the thing saying K-1s CAN get a SSN.. which is here: https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0100203500

Also, with the insurance and car, you'll need a driver's license. For now you'll only get a temporary one anyways, which from what I've heard will expire when your I-94 does, so I'm not sure that's even helpful. I haven't gone to get my license yet, so those who have will correct me if I'm wrong. :) Perhaps that varies depending on what state you're in. I don't see any problem with getting the car in both your names but only your husband be on the insurance.

Just relax, and realize there's no need to rush everything. :) You've got your AOS/etc papers filed. It won't be long until everything's in order.

Thanks Ashenflowers,

I am going to check the links you sent to me!

Yes I went to SSA and they said I can`t get SSN because that I was not eligible to work but the person I have seen was not friendly at all and doesn`t seem to know what she was doing but I have been told to not go to this office again...we called an other office around here and they said that since the CPB Officer wrote "work NOT authorized" they can`t issue me a SSN card and that we need to call DHS to get it fixed! We called DHS and they refer us to IRS for a Tax number...but it`s as long to get a tax number than it is for the SSN (I assume that I should get my EAD in around 8 weeks) so I quess that is better to wait to get my SSN card with my EAD...

I know it`s no rush but I found a nice car not too expensive and I really like it...I would like to buy it on my name but I am stuck now...can`t do anything...my husband has nice vision and dental insurance, he could add me now but he can`t because of this SSN number!

He can`t either add me on his health insurance because of this SSN!

I just don`t know what is best to do for the car...

thanks a lot again!
