Hi

For me it makes no sense that we can`t travel with AP when the I-485 is approved...mine is not yet but I got expedite AP because of health issue...I bought my ticket and I will leave on June 8 and I have an appointment with my doctor on June 9...

I have no health insurance here because CBP Officer screwed my I-94 up...so I can`t get SSN!

So Now I'm wishing that they didn`t approve my I-485 before I leave and it takes so long before they send the GC what they expect us to do?

I hope we can travel with the EAD? I didn't receive it yet but I'm hoping to receive it soon...

Have a good day

jo

Doesn't matter if it makes sense or not, there's rules to the process... they may be completely stupid and make NO sense to us but those are the rules.

You can't travel with an EAD... it's not a travel document.

I know it`s the rules...but I'm stuck here without any health insurance because someone made a mistake when I came on my K-1 visa but nobody can help me!!!

Even when I went to the USCIS office here, they told me that they screwed my I-94 up at the POE but they can`t do anything there...they told me to wait to get my GC!!!

Why bother to get an AP if it`s not good if you need a GC anyway! They should send intructions with the document because I would not have known it if I was not on VJ...

It's very frustrating...

It's not that you need a GC to use your AP... it's that you can only apparently use the AP until the GC is approved (so, in my case, for the all of one week I had it prior to my interview, woohoo).

So use that AP quick before your GC is approved, it seems.

You can use the AP but you can't use it once your green card has been approved. I understand it's frustrating but you just have to be prepared for everything. This process constantly throws curve balls and kicks you when you're down. It sucks but it's the way they work.

Technically you wouldn't have health insurance in Canada either since you're a resident here now no?

You can keep health insurance in QC if you are in the Canada 183 days in the year ...I will be more than that in QC this year because my daughter is going to have a baby in August and I will spend time with her and the baby...

Anyway healthcare without insurance are a lot cheaper in QC than here...

That is true. Even in Ontario it is. I once lost my health card and was waiting to renew it and a trip to the ER was 320.00... I got it all back once I could prove I had a health card but ya... sooo much cheaper. I went to the ER here for an asthma attack and the bill was 2000.00 - luckily I had insurance but still... 2000.00 for some oxygen... I didn't even get a popsicle out of the deal.

so cheap not even a popsicle lol

I can`t believe how expensive all insurance are here and how the cost of the health care are so high!!! Man it`s crazy!

When I was working in Caribbean I passed a mammogram for $140 and an ultrasound for $100...I can`t imagine how much it would be here!

Probably thousands.

When I went to the hospital for my asthma it was a saturday... the attack began at the vets office due to my allergy to cats. I was rushed to the hospital by my husband... when I got to the hospital the first thing they asked me for was my insurance card. Yea thanks... I'm having some trouble breathing here can't we get to that after?

Then when I got into the room and was given oxygen the nurse told me how I should have called my doctor first and shouldn't have come to the hospital. Right, I'll remember that the next time I'm dying.

2. Every occupant in the vehicle must have Nexus...I don't know if her husband does.

I just double-checked, because I thought I understood the rules a little different. Every occupant in the vehicle must have a NEXUS card... if you're using a NEXUS-only lane at the border crossing. You can still use a NEXUS card as proof of ID and citizenship in any lane, both entering into Canada and into the United States, but you can't use the express lanes unless everyone in the car has a card. You'd be processed as a normal traveler, and not get the express clearance of the NEXUS program, but the card is acceptable proof of ID and citizenship.

I am just finishing up the forms for my AOS and have a couple of questions. For the I-131 it asks for the date of intended travel and length of trip in section 3. I currently don't have anything planned, but would like to have it in case of an emergency back home. How did you fill this in?

On the I-485 and I-765 it asks for the last place of entry into the US. That would have been my POE. I flew from Edmonton to Denver then onto Knoxville, so do I put Denver as it was the first place I landed or Knoxville as that was my destination.

Thanks :)

I think I filled in "Unknown" and attached the supplement page that you can download from here and changed it to say that I'd like to have AP just in case so I dont have to scramble for it if I need it etc.

This might be a good question for you all... I am hoping to POE to US by the end of July, legal wedding, then start the AOS process in August (from K1). We are planning a destination wedding to Mexico in April of 2011. What could be the complications from the AOS/AP/GC process that might get in the way of my attending my own destination wedding?

Thanks!

I think between August and April you'll have plenty enough time. Even with an RFE you'd probably still get it done by... December at the latest I would think.
